think my wee terrier has got kennel cough:(

Guy from the neighbouring farm came over few days ago and brought his collie with him. Didn't pay much attention to it but as none of the other dogs here have it and Rems hasn't been out anywhere other than farm I can only guess that's where it's come from.

It's not too bad atm, been giving him honey in the morning (which he loves) and hoping that it'll sort itself out. Otherwise it's off to the vets :(

Pointless post I guess. Though wouldn't mind hearing other peoples experiences of it, such as how long did it take to clear up on it's own or at what point did you seek veterinary advice? Havn't had a huge amount of experience with it in all honesty.

Thanks all, got a half eaten kitkat here if anyones interested?!;)

Mine all had it about 6 weeks ago after going into kennels? Well, 2 out of the 3 got it, my oldest didnt get it at all :)

Amy was first, she was wretching rather than coughing, it lasted 5 days with her then went

Flick was second to get it, she had it 8 days so I nearly took her to the vet, she was coughing quite a lot :(

I exercised them on leads for the whole time they had it, so they werent racing around, and gave them Manuka Honey twice a day (a teaspoon per dog, morning and evening)

Didnt bother with the vet (on the vets recommendation!) and they all recovered well after 3 weeks in total for both of them to have it/get over it completely :)

You have my sympathy though, I worried like hell about mine all the time they had it although I knew there was not much I could do :(

Mine had it last year around christmas time and I'm beginning to think we are about to have it again. Annoying as hadnt had it for years and years before that. We always bring it home from a show or ringcraft class (if as I suspect we have it this time it definately came from ringcraft this time as she hasnt been shown since last sunday and only started coughing today). The other 3 usually start coughing a few days after. I keep an eye on temperature and any abnormal behaviour (reluctance to eat, very lethargic etc) but otherwise dont bother with a vet. There isnt anything much they can do. I give mine a low dose of metacam for the 2/3 days they are at their worst. Other than the coughing it doesnt make them particularly under the weather, mine are always just a touch quieter and inclined to cuddle up indoors for a bit longer before wanting to go out and charge around.

Thanks everyone,

He's not too bad atm, just the odd cough everynow and then. He's always been a mega fussy eater but still running round like a mad thing so if that changes i'll worry then!

My terrierx Teddy had a couple of days where she was wretching and then had a cough! was quite upsetting to see as shes quite a lively thing and she just wanted too stay home and cuddle up with the cat:) took her to vet and she had some antibiotics for couple of days and I gave her honey and she seemed to pick up. Then week later colliex Poppy then went down with it but she seemed to get over it much better as she has to be dying before she will refuse food and walks! But the old collie and the lurcher didnt have it and touch wood the 13 week old collie seems to be spared it aswell.
