Got to my boys at 7am this morning and it was pitch black. Motor was stressing and I could hear plip plopping going on and when I opened up the door, I was paddling in water

The joint under Motor's waterer had come adrift, as it had warmed up overnight, and he was paddling and very upset

.... whilst my TB was oblivious, even though it was running through his stable and out into the yard next door

After turning off the water I had to do an emergency clear up and get to work, stinking of horses

I had been trying to turn the water off for days, but the stop cock was frozen on

So tonight, I had to remove most of their bedding and get their beds back in order. Luckily, as they both have rubber mats under a full bed, the water managed to seep out underneath, so it could have been alot worse

Further luck being that they are renovating the yard next to me, and therefore a lovely chap repaired the burst and told me he had found two other joints that had come adrift and a burst pipe as well ....... so all back to normal now PHEW

Ooh lucky to have that nice chap around then! Horses eh, and the things we go through with them, who'd have 'em?

Never heard of one of those, they sound interesting!

Seriously though, I'm pleased you got back to normal

Apparently this weather is going to be here for a little while longer, I have lagged all my pipes, as much as possible with proper lagging and tied hessian sacking over the top, where pipes come out of the ground I have also put a polystyrene box over it to try and stop my water freezing, if you ever need to defreeze your stop cock again, boil the kettle and gently poor it over the tap and it will defrost enough for your to turn it off.

Quote from Wiki .... A stopcock is a valve used to restrict or isolate the flow of a liquid or gas through a pipe.

So it is really one word

what i nightmare i know how you feel as wee blaze had managed to pull his of the wall grrr. thankfull my dad had noticed before we had a major flood. also my wee brother is a plumber and when he put them up he put a shut of valve on each bowl. which is great as only his needed shut off while my brother fixed it

Oh poor Motor

He obviously thought he might float out of the door with his bed!!

I don't think any of mine would notice to be honest!!!

That ruins the packing manure round your bucket to stop it freezing method then - I didn't realise you had automatic waterers!

N uses his auto waterer, but Motor will not touch his, but it is plumbed in and is connected to the outside tap that I need ... so Motor does have a bucket or two of water, so not all is lost with your suggestion ... thankeeeeeeee
