I put a rug on Fella today. It's only the bloody beginning of October. I'm going soft!
Went up to see him, and he was standing in the middle of the field looking miserable and not eating (So not him) as it had been raining fairly heavily for a couple of hours. I spent nearly 2 hours drying him off so I could put his rug on. Chucked him out and he went back to normal Fella mode, munch, munch, munch.
Need to find him a lightweight rainsheet really, as that is all he needed, but I don't have one, so his lightweight went on. (Can anybody recommend a no-fill rainsheet that goes up to 7'3?) As soon as the weather perks up the rug is coming off, I just couldn't leave him in the field like that.
Aah well, maybe a little bit of fluffy bunny hugging doesn't hurt...?

Hey, if a horse is cold why not put a rug on?

My philosophy is that if they are miserable and I can do something about it then I don't care what the temperature or month is, and least of all what anyone else thinks.
We don't make ourselves shiver without a coat just because it is only October, do we?

Well I don't anyway.

I am checking out the Amigo lite 600s as I need a rain sheet for Ari. It's not cold here at the moment but when it rains it sheds down and FB has a rain sheet so Ari neds one too - even though he grew up in this weather!

I liked the Amigos for narrower horses, they were the only ones that actually sat properly around my arab's neck.

I don't think you could ever call my boy 'narrow' (3/4 shire) but thanks anyway!
And yup, thats why I put his rug on, didn't want him being miserable. Just seems very early, thats all.

Most of mine now are brick outhouses masquerading as QH's - Amigos wouldn't touch them, although they'd do nicely for the half bred babies...but they don't do foal sizes

We brought ours in for a couple of hours to dry off yesterday evening. That felt quite fluffy and was really only because the vet told us recently that the old lady's heart is not as good as it should be. We went a RC meeting and when we got back old lady had let herself out again and was happily munching grass in the yard.

The younger two were tucked up snugly in their stables with the hay we had given them.
