Well,

Thought about it long and hard and made a decision.

Have ordered equimats for my lads stable.
final straw was that he nearly fell over on Friday night whizzing round for his tea.
So visa card and £400 later, pressed the send button on the computer!!
Cant wait, am dead exited.
Just hope I dont get all OCD and hate it!
Going to use shavings in the hope it soaks up the wee a bit beter.

On this note WHAT DO YOU DO WITH REGARDS TO BEDDING? I have read on previous posts that it can smell and the horse can get really mucky without bedding on top all over. Also sometimes the urine can 'pool' if the stable doesnt slope properly rotting the concrete underneath. Do you put shavings just where they pee to counteract this? I am also thinking of getting rubber mats but want to make sure it is a good decision before i spend out. Mare is VERY wet and stables do not slope!

I have same problem, my stable slopes though into my storage area.

I am HOPING that with a decent shavings bed the wee will get soaked up before it gets chance to reach my store!!!

Failing that the b****rs will be dragged out and for sale!

I cant see me using this half a bucket of shavings a day - can just imagine the mess! Half a bed of shavings is my intention, bout an inch or so thick! (thats the plan anyway)

Ours is proffessionally fitted (came with the stable) and we haven't had any problems with it! He gets a thin layer of shavings in the back half of his stable, and he is a VERY messy horse (looks like a bomb site in there some mornings) but it's so much easier to muck out then hay, and much more hygenic (he has mud fever so important) then a deep bed!

We used to use shavings with the rubber matting and it used to smell a bit but we have switched to Easibed and the stables smell much nicer! They have made life much easier.

all of our boxes have equimats in them and they are amazing! I love them, really non slip and look fab and dont smell! Well worth the money!! We've just ordered a whole load more for our new livery yard. xx

Rubber matting with a full straw bed on top here. The floors are deep chalk, no concrete and the matting stops the horses from digging holes. On nice windy days the straw is left up for the floor to blow dry

If you use megazorb on top and sprinkle where he pees it absorbs all the moisture.I use it under my shavings and its really good.Your going to have to work some extra hours lol.How is your boy on the njs.

Hi, might give the megazorb a try!!! He is a wet boy, eiter that or catheterise him!

Started on the NJS and had a good ride on Friday and he was fine, had some stony hills to encounter and pulled like a train for a canter - so let him! Dont think hes ready to retire yet!

Hows your boy doing? xx

Thats why I used it Ollies very wet.
Glad Sam is doing well.
From the size of the bucks and pinging about I think hes feeling better.I was going to walk him out in hand but after 8 weeks off but he was a bit sparky .Something spooked him in the field opposite our entrance .He grew to about 18 hands with his tail up like a arab and was all over the place as Im only 5 3 thought I would wait another week until the vet comes out.lol.
I have the surgeon out on the 18th they keep changing the dates hopefully I can start work on him again. Not sure if Im looking forward to that or not he will be a complete loon again .Hes been really good considering .Im off on holiday in the morning for 5 days we have a place in spain and the bills need paying again.Hard life !!!!!!!!

Farmway have megazorb usually. If he's really wet, put the megazorb underneath the shavings or even use instead of shavings and then just skip out the muck - leave the megazorb down and don't disturb it as it then pads together when wet and forms a really solid base. You can take out the wet top layer of shavings though but I find the shavings stay nice and dry and the megazorb stays down for weeks.

Mind you I've just switched to Nedz Bed as the Ginger Princess will be foaling on it... I rather like it!
