Regarding new yard. It's certainly NOT as fab as I was led to believe. The school and jumps are brilliant, but that's about it. Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention that of course there are no eejit ignorant liveries, but on the other hand, the YO is pretty obnoxious and control-freaky himself! The yard, is of course, VERY expensive; more so than the Jockey club which has 3 schools, a walker etc, etc. My yard pride themselves on doing EVERYTHING for you, but I rather like doing things for myself. Still, if I'm getting charged for daily tack cleaning, I rather expect it to be done, and it doesn't. I have to hassle continuously to make sure PF gets mucked out properly and I HATE not being able to take PF outside covered in poo stains if I so feel like it

God help her should she roll!!
I can't ride on Monday because... get this... no one is around to tack up (ummm... yes... but I CAN do it myself you know!) I miss being in complete control of what and how much she eats (they seem to be 'fattening' her up- I keep TELLING them she's a LW TB and isn't MEANT to look like a WB!) I'm not allowed to move the fences around, and there weren't any fences at all in the school last week because they were levelling it. There's only so much flatwork PF will tolerate!!
Anyhoo, old yard is starting to look great again

PF was properly looked after and I trust the grooms totally. TBF she seems happy enough at this yard, but not quite as relaxed... although that could be due to all the food they're shovelling in her.
At the old yard I have the school to myself all the time and can do what I want. I've decided that the extra money I spend at this yard I can use improving the jumps at old yard.
Of course the eejit liveries will still be there, and food will probably run out again, but it is practically my own yard...
Am I MAD??!!

Oh dear.... I wouldnt be happy if I was told when and how to ride/feed my own horse... and pay for the priveledge!!

If you're not happy with things then this will ultimately rub off on PF, whenever i have been unhappy at a yard in the past my girl would always pick up on it and also be unsettled. Sometimes you have to move in order to know what was good about the old yard. If you would be happier back at your old place then just move back. My record is one week between leaving and going back!!

Totally crazy!!!! But seriously, you've tried it, found it doesn't work for you, so move back as soon as you can. On paper the yard you're on now sounds great, but from what you've described I'd really hate to be on a yard like that. I dread to think how they'd cope with my ugly horses!
Unfortunately it's only by actually being on the yard that you get to find out all the things that really go on...

I would think of moving back or looking for a new yard. Your yard sounds hell. I hate being told when I can and can not do my horse

Oh, dear!

I think you got lots of advice to move, because the old yard was driving you mad with all the numpties and politics, and your place there wasn't secure (from what I understand?). And the organisation re feed etc. was rubbish.

I think it's a question of pro's and con's; and a good one, perhaps, for making lists and seeing which comes out best. Not an easy decision, by the sound of it. Both yards have pretty major faults. I am sorry to hear the new one didn't match up to your hopes.

If you have spoken to the YO and things don't seem like they are likely to change then move!
It sounds like a very controling yard I would hate people telling me what I can and can't do and stopping me from riding just because someone is not there to tack up for me, that is absolutly stupid! You are paying for the yard and you should be happy and since you aren't happy ultimatly I think PF would start being unhappy. Are you able to move back to your old yard or will you have to move somewhere new?

Well you tried it, you not as happy, so there is your answer, move back (well if they will have you back, he, he).

I have to say it would do my head being told when I could and couldn’t ride.

All the threads I have read about your new yard have sounded like a complete nightmare TBH. But I am a "newbie" and don't know how bad your old yard was. Are there any other alternatives or are you pretty limited out there re yards? If these are the only 2 available, then I think your old yard has to be better, surely.

No way would I have anybody telling me what I could and couldn't do with my own horses, end of!

Oh dear all that would drive me nuts too. Could you get back to your old yard at all if you wanted to? I know that you said that you left on good terms.
Actually PF, I miss all your tales of the BOF and Fabian.

your old yards full isnt it? so for the time being it seems youre a bit stuck, is there absolutely nowhere else (jockey club?)

I would go back, horses are meant to be fun, a escape from the 'real' world and it doesnt sound like the new place is a nice place to be.

seems to me that the extra monies can be used to get some jumps etc for the old yard you could always chain them up if you wanted to stop other people pinching them!

yes your horses happyness is important, but so is yours! and it sounds like she was just as happy at the old place.

I'm moving back to assisted DIY from Part/Full Livery as I feel like a spare part and have actually lost confidence in handling my horse!

Sounds like you need to leave.....

Hiya, I moved back to my old yard a few weeks ago for similar reasons... not allowed to turn out when i wanted being the worst of them, i have gone from Assisted diy to real diy, but he can be out all day and all night so I have not got hay or bedding to buy.
I am much happier knowing that he doesnt need to be ridden all the time or spend most of it caged up in a stable... he is arthritic in a couple of joints so movement is key to his soundness.

If you feel that you can now weigh up the yards and be happy putting up with the cretins, then move asap.

I know! It's horrible. Everyone assumes I know bugger all about horse care because hardly anyone does (Argies like it all done for them!) And they're rather surprised when I know EXACTLY how much PF should be eating, the price of alfalfa and so on

Well, if the yard WAS as it had been described, it would've ALMOST, but not quite, have been worth it.
To add insult to injury, the livery went up TODAY from 'very expensive' to 'absolutely ridiculous'
Deffo going back as soon as I can.

New yard livery price has just gone up and I can no longer justify spending so much money. It's well over double cost of old yard. Even with food running out and having to buy my own and yard politics I think I prefer old yard... but I think it was important that I try this one out so I know what I won't be missing!!
I value old yard so much more now!

There's nowhere locally as good as old yard... so I've already been pulling strings to get me back (sneak me back in fact; I think most people won't even realise I've gone!!)
Plus Antifaz and my pupils are at old yard, which makes it all so much more convenient!

You aren't allowed to tack up your own horse ???!!!

[/ QUOTE ]
It's discouraged. Mainly because this yard prides itself on doing everything for you. I've TRIED explaining that I really don't mind, but it just seems incomprehensible to them that one would tack up one's own horse from choice!!
