Sister rang me saying she's going to get a new dog...

a Schnug!

Try and guess what that mongrel is
tongue.gif

(she was joking BTW, she just wanted to wind me up)

I know she was joking, but this is a pet hate of mine. Crossing breeds and giving them names to make it respectable. I heard today of springer/lab pups given the name of labspring or something stupid, they are being sold for £200!!! for a bleedy mongrel, people are mad.

TBH £200 doesn't actually bother me, you are buying a dog, selling them for £50 is asking for trouble!
What annoys me is the ones that cost £600 and are a mix of the most ridiculous breeds and marketed as something they cannot gurantee, usually that they will have the perfect attributes of each breed.
The other thing which annoys me is that Labradringers/Labradoodles/etc etc usually will NOT have had the health testing that pedigrees often will and despite all this hybrid vigour stuff, you can still end up with a dog which has A LOT of health problems.

I just typed it in to Google image search, and found that Schnugs are ADORABLE!

I know this whole "designer dog" thing is ridiculous, but seriously... hairy little wrinkly faces....
grin.gif
I think the cutest thing I have EVER seen was a Puggle - pug/beagle. Seriously, look it up on Google images; you will actually melt into a little puddle on the floor.

Nothing better than a lovely mongrel.

(I'm really not a "designer dog" supporter, honest!)

Litter of Akitas advertised as free to a good home in our local shop.

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

My head has literally just imploded

WHHY???? Even if you do want to give the buggers away, don't advertise the fact!
mad.gif

That is quite frightening, can you imagine the idiots who will think a free Akita is a good idea. Only positive is that hopefully they won't think of breeding from it to sell the pups for a fortune.
frown.gif

There are signs up around our tech trying to sell Akitias are a ridiculously low price as well.

I hate it when you see these ads such a the labradoodles saying they won't moult. You cannot guarantee that!

It's the 'cute' names and crazy inflated prices which make me angry.

I googled the Schnugs, they are ugly wee buggers!

No where near as cute as a proper Schnauzer like my Beastie

Like Ravenwood says, they are a common and useful cross. I'd happily pay £200 for a Springer x Lab. Just like I paid £200 for my Springer x Patterdale
tongue.gif
I wouldn't however pay for a labradoodle, or a puggle etc.

See, I wouldn't pay as much as that
blush.gif
But in saying that, I paid £250 for a very well bred lab (was a very lucky find!)

I also paid £250 for Beastie, she is a pedigree but that was quite a few years ago whereas now Mini Schnauzers are sooo popular you can't get one any cheaper than £400!

I would pay up to £500 I think for a really good lab pup though. But M wouldn't let me
tongue.gif

The reason they are probably going free is because people are finally realising that yes, while they look amazing, they can be bloody hard work. Doesn't help the poor buggers that are here already and can't find homes
frown.gif

Yes, but I think prices here are different from where you are, just like with horses.

I've had a quick look on epupz, and in my county then labs are £400-£550, and Mini Schnauzers are £500-£800!
blush.gif
That's before you even start picking out which are the best breeders and bloodlines.

Money wasn't really an issue when I got Pops though. I was looking at the dogs not the price tags when looking through the ads.

I wouldn't pay that much either, for a start it's part Lab
crazy.gif
and TBH I don't think they are that useful a dog
tongue.gif
grin.gif

They are two dogs bred for completely different things, I don't want a dog that does it's job half-arsed!

But then again I only paid £80 for my Pedigree Springer Spaniel
grin.gif

I think the price is a reflection of where you are. Max apparently has a good pedigree - his father and grandfather were field trials champions - the Labrador Rescue keep his pedigree - and was £650 as a puppy. When they no longer wanted him and he came to me I paid £160 for him.

Most working dogs (labs and spaniels) round here are for sale for between £400 - 600.
