Right, so around 4 weeks ago my horse haad a pastern Artherodesis, she recovered really well and was allowed to go home within 3 days. However a week later she was back in as her cast was rubbing her, 10 days after that and several injections of concentrated antibiotic later she cam home (quite glad as it cost £30 a day there which is what i pay per week in livery!). Anyhow the vet has to come out 1/2 times a week to change her bandage over and monitor the wound which is finally playing ball and closing up. Yesterday however, the lovely vet dropped a bombshell, the implants (metal plate and screws) are not permanent and have to be removed!!!! were already on £4000 out of our £5000 insurance cover and she has to have the same treatment all over again. Daddy says there won't be christmas this year :(:p But in all seriousness im quite worried about where we're going to find the money from
Well done if you read this far!
Here are the pictures of my poor pony :-P http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150216240146897.335240.523291896&type=1&l=487ba702f1..

Sorry to hear you're having a tuff time ( and pony!) When the op is done and the last £1000 of insurance is up , i guess the vet will bill you directly , so , by now you should have built up a good relationship with the vets , I'm sure they would let you pay off the rest of the bill in stages , you can only ask , good luck ...

I'm sorry you've had such a shock, that kind of news would be devastating for some people. I'm surprised the vet didn't give you an estimate at the start of the treatment.
Good luck and I hope everything turns out well.

Thanks, they didn't mention it when the treatment started but tbh my dad and I would still have had it done as it's the only way that she would ever be comfortable and we both think (he does secretley anyway) that she's worth it :p
