oh dear that didnt go well... horse buying

I have the opposite problem; I like every horse I try - not even started looking officially yet but been to see friends of friends horses who have heard I might be looking - and every single one I like - am worried I'm not fussy enough!

I hate horse shopping so really feel for you - what a nightmare! I certainly would not have bought the horse either, even if before I had thought it was alright (although from your post you had said it seemed a bit sharp anyway so probably not the one for you).
Hope you have better luck next time.

when i whent to see my Ben he took off with my mate in school as he spooked but calmed down, then when i hacked him out a little a car came down hill with squeaky breaks he kinda rushed forward and stopped

as i said let me see how he reacted he will spin but go no where

Having previously been overhorsed went to try a coloured cob at yard owners friends. Had to hack out with her 19 year old son on his flashy spanish horse. The only saddle they had for me was a big stock saddle all sheepskin with big handle on front. Anyway they got me on and we set off on the lane, about 5 mins out i realised saddle was a bit loose, reached down to feel girth and oops it slid round and i stumbled to the floor, horse was a star just stood there looking amused, anyway yes I did buy her as realised probably wouldnt find anything safer!

I always remember years ago when my sister was looking for her first horse, we went to a locally well known (at the time) show producers yard to see a horse that had been recommended to us.

The sellers had a girl ride the horse first - but where they rode it was in a huge field - massive infact! The horse was very beautiful, good confirmation and well mannered. So my sister got on, and the horse did no more than bolt straight away with my sister, and it took a good 20 minutes of bolting around this huge field before it could be stopped. My sister was a wreck and needless to say the horse was not brought home by us!

A few years ago I was trying a section D who was sweet but really green. The girl who rode him for me to see was an "eventer" (so she told me....). I got on him and rode him around while my mum was videoing me riding him. All you could hear on the video when I watched it was the girl's mum telling her that she should pay attention to how I was riding him - as I was getting him to go so much better!
