Hi all.

So I had the vet out yesterday, and I don't think that the loaners are going to buy the pony, so I am now back to shipping, as with her bone spavin (now healed but never going to be easy to sell, and I wouldn't trust that all would go well) I just don't think I can let her go.

So.....anyone know of any good international transporters, and rough price estimates? I am thinking probably around 5k. I really am not sure its worth it, as I am going to have to move in with the boyfriend's parents in my last term at Uni to pay for it. But, I just can't let her go!!!!

Any opinions? I am about to ring up a transporter now. problem is, where she would be shipped is Virginia, which would mean about a 9 hour box ride from New York...

Help!

They probalby ship horses either into Dulles or Baltimore as Virginia is very big with TB Bloodstock, I wouldn't think you would have to fly her to New York.

you are correct, you wont get much change out of £5K if any, talk to Parkers as they ship constantly over there and most of the prices I had ended up being via them anyway. Good Luck.

The cost will be around £6,500 door-to-door. She will likely be shipped to a facility to do her quarantine which will last around 15 days. After that period she will be land-shipped down to Virginia and may or may not have a stopover on the way.

When my mare was shipped to North America. She flew into NY was then driven to Jamaica an hours drive from NY. A couple of days later she was shipped to Cornell for her quarantine. Due to the time of year I shipped her she ended up staying at Cornell for a month and then she was land-shipped up here to Canada - a journey which took 6 hours. She was travelled loose in a huge loosebox on wheels and she arrived here tired but in excellent spirits.

You wouldn't happen to know who flies freight into DC? I have been on Google all morning, and as yet no luck, I can find Atlanta, LA or NY, all of which are a fair distance!

Parkers....hmmm.....will have a look now for them and try to get a quote.

I will look them up. I have just spoken to some people in Cowfold, who have given me a rough estimate of 5k, which is what I thought. The flight itself is only $3250, the price of a first class person ticket, its just all the other fraff, and 2-3 weeks in quarantine.

Am I making the right decision!?

Personally, I would not put much stock in "estimates". I would never ship a horse any other way than door-to-door because in my breakdown of costs, the flight only accounted for £1,950.

How long are you going to America for - is it a permanent move?
The current loaners - if they don't want to buy are they wanting to keep loaning her?

My point is, you are being quoted around about the same cost as I was for the flight; which would mean that your final figure will be around the same price as mine; £6,500. You are getting final quotes for shipping a mare and not a gelding? Just checking LOL!! because there is a big difference in cost.

Ah, gotcha, yeah, she's a mare. Mares are more expensive I believe.

Smash - It will be a permanent move - I am a yank myself, and I have been in the UK since I was one, and want to live somewhere warm! I am sure that they would like to loan her for longer, but the girl is 14 and is going to get too big for her I expect in a year or so, and then I would be buggered as I would have a horse 4000 miles away from me! :-)
