Didn't clip Kal this winter (he had the winter off b/c I was ill) . . . and good Lord am I paying for it now. Every time he shakes, every time I touch him, every time I brush up against him, every time I put tack on/or take it off . . . I am covered with white hairs. I can't brush him without having to sweep up afterwards. He rolled in the field today and left a carpet on the grass. I have taken the mini shedding blade to him several times and could make a small sweater out of the coat that came out.

He looks much more like himself (sport horse) than a fat yak . . . but I will not be leaving him unclipped again. The pain of getting his coat out is too much to deal with. I have already ruined a brand new, Mark Todd fleece (mine, not his) by not taking it off when grooming - it is covered in white hairs which are sticking to it like velcro.

There's no real point to this . . . I'm just venting . . . yes, there are worse troubles to have . . . but this is irking me, so you lot get to hear about it ;).

Hoover him!!:D

Know what you mean my lads got a low trace, hes grey and hes been shedding for the past two weeks, cant believe how much is coming out of him, the hairs get everywhere and i mean everywhere.. :-/
Making me sneeze as well,, not nice

Buy a furminator, you can get them off amazon. They are amazing at removing hair. They come in horse, cat and dog sizes.

I bought 2 fruminators, and while they are effective, they were no very durable and in both cases, the handles snapped off. In the end, I used them without the handle.

Next year, just clip him :D

Ned is clipped and not that hairy even when he is fuzzy, he's not started shedding yet either, but my goodness! Last year it was awful :O no amount of brushing could get it all off, it just kept coming :O

Hoover him!!:D

dustbuster him :p

(old photo when hats didn't seem so important )

I leave mine naked and let them rub it off in the field... :p

Believe me, I won't be leaving him unclipped again . . . EVER. For a fine-coated TB/sport horsey type he grew an enormous coat!

I think some show type people do use them, actually  Maybe not over here, but definitely in the states. The reason I got that shot was because my friend asked about hair removal on an american forum and she thought they were taking the mick when they suggested hoovering him! Naturally, being me, hoovering him from the ground while standing still seemed to tame

Worth a try - good luck :p

(thanks, btw - J is the most long suffering horse in the world!)

I'm going up tomorrow (haven't seen him since last Sunday :( ) equipped with Furminator etc!! He had a blanket clip, so I'm assuming there's a bit of shedding due, although his summer coat wasn't coming through last week (just those horrid 'mouse hairs'). We'll see!!

I think I have got hay fever for the first time in my life. I also have unclipped horses.... Ah ah ah aaahhhhtchooooo!!!!

If I do have a go, it won't be while on board . . . you are a braver woman than I!

P

P.S. I am also putting him out naked so he can roll - there is a huge white patch in the field at the moment (the nesting birds will have a field day - no pun intended) ;)

I know what tou mean, groomed pony today and with every sweep of the plastic curry comb, I was having to bang it out, is it me or is the moult early this year?

Not sure if it's early but it sure does seem sudden . . . I feel like we're fitting a seasonal moult into a week!

Haha, I just know J - I know it would take more than a little mini-hoover to freak him out :D

I have white patches too... I thought someone had been spraying paint on my fields  Lucky birdies :D

I'm jealous of people with moulting horses :( My New Forest typically hangs onto bits of his winter coat until the end of June...........and starts growing it again in September

I feel your pain! Ruby has a trace clip and started moulting a month ago. She has been naked in the field and I have to use a shedding blade everyday. I too could knit a jumper from the hair she looses! I hacked out yesterday and hair was flyin off everywhere! Haha

Ps I am still applying eye drops and taking inhaler every 10 mins :(

Me too. I collected my prescription from the chemist the other day and the pharmacist was dismayed at the amount of stuff I'm on. I explained I have a horse. She nodded knowingly. Turns out she does too. :D

Hoover him!!:D

Funnily enough, I tried that once. My old boy Bamber, in 1974, was losing his coat in handfuls, so I got the vacuum cleaner, stood him by the back door, and hoovered him with an Electrolux cylinder cleaner.

He didn't care, he was the ultimate bombproof pony. Disappointingly, though, the vacuum cleaner didn't shift the hair very well. :(

I wouldn't go near Mollie The Drama Queen with a vacuum cleaner though.

Oh I sooooo feel your pain!

Stupidly I decided to leave Dizzy au naturale this year (until it went to -7 or something around that). My God, what a massooove mistake that was - he's moulting like a yeti in the carribean and no matter how much hair I'm taking out everyday, he's still as hairy as bigfoot!!

Im constantly walking around like I have a serious hair growing problem; it covers my face, is in my mouth, up my nose, in my own hair, on my clothes, shoes etc

This year, make no mistake - he's being rugged up from September :D:D

Guys... Help! I got some hair stuck in my throat and I can't get it out I feel like I'm choking!!

I am feeling quite smug - no moulting going on here at all ....... yet!

Fat Lad is a Highland and it is our first winter so not sure how long he will hang onto his coat for. Bailey is a mongrel pony and has been rugged in a mw which is coming off today. She has been showing no signs of moulting either, but the sun is forecast to come out this week, so all that might change :)

I hate it when the hair gets everywhere, on your clothes, in your mouth, you just can't get rid of it. I joked last year that I was going to get a forensic paper boiler suit thing and wear one of those at the field while the horses are moulting. Hmmmm, might have to have to get one in, for when they do decided to shed!
