Oh heck. My horse is lame (not the one you think either)

I have broken BH! :(

I can't find any earthly reason for him to be lame and he was sound yesterday evening and looked ok this morning too. I am a bit mystified really. I am really hoping he's just tweaked something and he's going to be sound in the morning but that seems pretty hopelessly optimistic.

I feel absurdly stressed as he never, ever goes lame and years of living with Nitty have taught me to always expect the worst. O dear.

I can't see any obvious bruises in his feet but it was pretty dark by the time I started looking. Can't really think what else it could be as there is no heat or swelling anywhere?

I hope so. Despite being a big lump I actually don't think he'd be the bravest in the world. I get the impression he'd be the type that limped around like he'd been shot when there isn't too much wrong. Lets hope my instinct is right!

poor BH doesn't seem overly concerned so that's one good thing at least. He's quite happily tucking into his hay and was his usual impolite self so that's something. At least if I have to have him on box rest he'll enjoy it, unlike madam!

Ahh, good old Brown Horse. I loved your 'Do horses suffer from autism?' comment on your other thread. It does rather sum him up!

How many tenths lame is he? I should think he's just tweaked something after his busy weekend.

Thank you TFF. I am a little concerned as he's been a busy beaver this weekend (specifically yesterday when he was drag hunting) but he was sound last night and seemed sound this morning so I am a little confused really. If he wasn't sound this morning he certainly wasn't as lame as he is tonight.

Puppy, oo lots. I don't know. Probably five or six although he looked significantly better once poor OH had jogged him up and down a few times. But lame enough that when I saw him walking in the field I could see he wasn't right straight away!

ETS: That is the closest I can come to find words to describe his very odd personality. If he was a person I'm sure he would have been diagnosed with something, he's a real odd bod!

Nearly sound this morning  maybe 1/10th. How strange is that? Hope he's still that sound when I get back this afternoon. I have separated them as she is in a funny mood atm and probably kicked him or chased him round. Who knows.

Dont worry give him another day or two and see what happens I am sure he will be fine, if you cant see anything obvious the vet will tell you to box rest/ seperate field for a couple of days anyway. As long as he is eating and happy I am sure he has tweeked something

Horses are weird. Pony was lame 2 weeks ago, we've gave him a bute to make him comfortable (he's 26) and when the bute wore off he was sound. Then he went lame again, and I boxed him up with mine who was going to the vets anyway. I trotted him up before loading, and I am sure he was not level.

We got to the vets and it turns out the little pony is a little faker - not anything wrong with him, passed lungeing test, trot up, lunge on hard surface and flexion tests - made me look a complete fool!

Fingers crossed he gets better and its just one of those things. Might be worth getting a physio if/when he goes sound to see if they can pick up if he's tweaked anything?

If he improved that much overnight it probably is just a tweak...

Though when Fergs took a chunk out of his radius he was sound for 10 days in the field, then went rather lame overnight and improved dramatically to almost sound after just a few hours box rest  But then he had a significant lump on his leg ;)

definitely still no lump. Vet is out to jab Nits tomorrow so will have him looked at just incase. Sensible friend also can't find anything that ought to be making him lame so hopefully he'll be sound for tomorrow and my vet will just think I'm hysterical! More than they already do!

Fingers xx'd he's 100% by tomorrow (if so, of course this will be just to make you look like an eejit on front of vet! :D )

I think Nitty has been whispering in his ear about how to get out of work! Horrible mare! :D

Hopefully she'll get the all clear to start work again tomorrow too. I blimming hope so!

O TFF. He only went and trotted up 100% sound for the vet didn't he?! I'm sure they all think I'm absolutely barking! :o

Then the little &*!$ pulled the lunge line out of my hands on the way to the school to see how he was on a circle and vanished at some speed to the field over the rock hard, rutted field track. He looked sound as he beggared off so we left it at that.

He is a despicable excuse for a horse and takes every opportunity to embarrass me and make a liar of me

Nitty is getting looked at tomorrow by my friend the vet, as she has been involved from the beginning, before we (hopefully) take BH and her pony for a lesson. Assuming BH is 1) sound and 2) loads. Otherwise I'll just be taking her pony. Which actually would be much more enjoyable as I don't really want to get shouted at for my appalling riding and ill mannered horse.

On the plus side my trailer is all lovely and serviced and nothing wrong so we're good to go all summer. Now I just need both my horses to behave and stay in work and I'll be well away. Chances of this happening? Slim to none I reckon :D

I posted this yesterday  ;)

OOps! Hmm, I seem to remember saying something yesterday..... ;):D

Little (not so!) stinker! At least you have peace of mind that he IS ok, and am glad to hear it :)

He is a total goon. He really is on one at the moment. I've left him out tonight in the hope that he will therefore be in a good mood in the morning. Of course, it might just enrage him further. I can never tell with him....

TFF- I should have run a book shouldn't I? You'd have been quids in :D

LLL- please come and take him away if you want!

cfg- he makes me look an idiot in front of everyone, I've given up and am used to it now. I did warn her that he isn't as nice as my other one (who she knows quite well from when she was in at the horsepital last summer) and then he had to go and prove it. Men eh?! :)
