i can't believe my bad luck sometimes, i am SO tired
i have just 2 neighbours in the whole length of my valley, one is a mad old hippy who's scanky dog *****s on my door step( please take note of the placement of this item!)
the other is a retired horse dealer who has a gang of 6 poneys and one elephant horse that no one wanted to buy, now i like all horses but i would be lying if i didn't say that i have often stood by his fence and pondered on the parentage of these strange creatures!
fast forward..... 5am, strange silence of the lambs noises woke us up and we did a mad collide in the dark dash to get outside( why do you forget that electricity was invented when these things happen?!)
and of course i find ' the gang ' by my stables and one of them is kicking Shadows door and Mr P is trying to bite them, utter, utter chaos and then there's ' the big guy ' black and looming in the dark, massive he is like a shire, and NOT BROKEN. bloody terrifying to weeny me.
we flapped and shouted, i got hay and OH drove them out towards one of the paddocks, they kept escaping and turning back to our horses and in the dark it's not much fun dodging flying, jumping ponies that have turned into sodding gazells.
finally got them herded in a paddock, dumped a load of hay in and headed back to the house where i promptly stepped in the dog pooh that was on my doorstep!
one was not amused!!!

I'm sorry but your threads always make me giggle, you have such a way with words :D. Hope you manage to get them all home and don't step in anything else!

*trying not to giggle too loudly whilst at work*

I cannot help with your swarm of horses, but you can stop the dog going anywhere near your door with tiger balm or vicks (slightly less effective). The smells really hurt their noses. We had to put it on the washing machine knobs....

I do hope you rang the owner of the horses in the early hours to let him know where his herd was :-)

you are not going to believe this but i swear it's true, phoned the owner and he has chopped one of his fingers off with a chainsaw, was going to ask which one ? can you still hold a rope ? thought better of it !
a farmer friend of his came and helped us to get a halter on the lead mare and the rest followed , very ' rawhide' !!

PLEASE explain - I am boggling wildly!!! (Which at my time of life is probably not wise)!

Dogs have such sensitive noses that a strong smell can be almost painful for them. They seem to find strong menthols very distasteful.
We have a "dirty room" where the dogs sleep at night. ("handy utility boot room" on our house advert). We put our old washing machine in there for dog towels, horse bits etc. Evidently the dogs decided to spend the evening hanging off all the knobs, I managed to reattach some of them. I'd previously used tiger balm to protect the bottom of doors from scratching when separating a bitch. If it's strong enough to overcome bitch heat it will stop a pooper.
