Oh Lord !!!! Opinions on this please ....

I saw this on country file ages ago.

Looks fun but dont think my tb would be too impressed with someone attatched to him!
It would be fun to be the person on the board aswell!

Brilliant! I have 2 horses, and a mountain board, and an OH who loves to do extreme sports, and a huge country estate nearby to play in (where we take said board and our power kite to play!).

I am so going to get mine doing this, OH would love it! In fact all our friends would love it, and I can imagine the horses, who think galloping is actually the most fun ever, would also love it!

Going to look on that FB page now and find out the rope rig-up. I reckon it must be similar to the quick release stuff you can get for kite surfing (which is what we learnt to do last summer!).

I could have the first intermediate eventer who also does horse boarding!

I saw a comment left by someone in one paper that Rohan (the grey in bottom photo) looked terrified in that pic, i thought 'erm, no, if you knew him you'd know he is just p'd off that Dan keeps asking him to go steady!' Rohans favorite words are 'go, go go, push on!

It should be on BBC breakfast tomorrow if you want to see it in action, with me as Rohans slightly incompetant pilot...at least I didn't deck the journalist though, phew!

Edited to say: I'm working on the boarding as well...it is surprisingly hard, but if you can already board you will love it!

Ha ha I was just going to say the grey doesn't look too happy, either his gob being held onto or because he wasn't impressed with the skateboard thing !

Are those just ordinary saddles? I would worry that the the tug of the rope on the back of the saddle would put too much pressure on the horses back?

Why? There's no downwards force? The reason they wear a breastplate is presumably to stop the saddle slipping back and to mean part of the force is transferred through the chest area? I can't see how it is any different to the carriage driving set ups which have someone riding one of the lead horses....

That's right, normal saddles with a rope rig (which you can make...will see if Dan has photos) and carabiner with quick release clip attached, then a wakeboarding type rope. There shouldn't be any slipping or downwards pressure on the tack, but as stated, the breastplate if slightly tighter than normal may take some of the pressure.

I think there may already be a couple of eventers doing it, but the more the merrier! Like you say, the horses love to gallop and once they get going they don't notice the board at all. Rohan is extremely fast, faster than most boarders can cope with, and I think the camera unfortunately caught the 'whoa back' moment! Dan, Rohan and I currently hold the track record and even then I was having to hold onto him hard!

I think waiting til after wedding is a good idea...there is definite potential for the boarder to get dented!
