Not if there's a chance that he is likely to end up in an unsavoury situation.

At the age of 70, you would hope the owner knew about the birds and the bees and have the good sense not to breed from himself or his animals!

70 is no age at all. The OP has said that this person has become ill. Age does not necessarily come in to it.

If you can comfortably afford another and have the extra time for a youngster then why the hell not I say, no harm in looking, if there thinking of putting him down but realise you can offer him a lovely home then maybe that is all they really want.

Good luck, we just acquired another Arab, we went to Llanybydder last week & come home with a lovely chestnut mare, cant believe how lucky we were :)

Proud owner of 2 arabs, one of which is 3 yr old chestnut filly with flaxen mane, 4 stockings, white face, flesh marks, belly patches & now developing spots as well (can't have too much white).

I still have an Arab-shaped hole in my life, but have my hands full with my new ConnieXTB, but once she is going well I will be seriously thinking about it, so, much like you, keeping half an eye open for a youngster.

Maybe at 70 years old he knows exactly how cruel the horseworld can be to unwanted young horses and is doing what is best for the horse.

what would you rather BS? Owners taking responsibility of their animals and PTS or hundreds if not thousands more young healthy animals flooding the markets and lining dirty dealers pockets?? I'll tell you now, they wont stay healthy for long.
 
Come on, have you got him yet? :D

It may be that due to owners age and ill health, he is not that badly handled, just a bit 'fresh' or forward for his capabilities but easily sorted by you - don't forget your camera! :)
 
Hope you get him , he deserves a chance in life , if he's only a yearling , you'll have plenty of time for your others as i guess you'll only be doing day to day handling , even if you turn him away , we arab owners ( ex) know how well they remember their lessons.

I too believe things happen for a reason and some of the best horses are found this way (ie word of mouth), I sold my sister's fab pony through chatting to a local at the pub. He'd been for sale for ages but no takers which was v odd as he was agreat PC pony (we sold our scared-of-traffic-and-aggressive welsh cob with sweetitch to the first people to see him!). I hope the vieweing went well.

I bought a 15mth old last summer - I had been sort of looking for a youngster to bring on but more a 2 or 3 yo. However, thisn one was advertsied for a while, ad went and then ad came back so I went to see and the rest they say is history!!!

Same here.....thats how I got my arab.:D I believe he was waiting for me:D

PS...I just been offered a dog - free to a good home- just working out the logistics. Whats one more dog on top of 3 horses, 2 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, 2 rats and a rabbit? Oh......and 2 kids:p

OP.....hope you get him. Otherwise......I'll make a bit of space.:eek:
