Oh my days. Pmsl.

I wish I could have been there lol! Can't believe ASDA staff offered to hold the horse, you'd have expected them to hang the phone up thinking it was a prank lol!

Many years ago I rode to the doctor's surgery in the next village, tied the horse up and went in for an appointment. I can't remember what was wrong tho', possibly a bad back, lol! I also once met a friend who was just leaving the farm shop with a sheepskin rug balanced behind the saddle. He was intending to ride the 5 miles or so home like that and as far as I know he got home successfully. This was before there was so much traffic on the roads.

We were going to do something similar once, had saddlebags at the ready - I think pony sussed out the plan though and went lame half way there! Had to abandon that trip.... :/

I rode through Macdonalds drive thru once, and asked if we could have a bad of salad for my horse....got a VERY funny look!

We're in the middle of nowhere quite near to you Binky... and when it snows the only way to get any food is to ride seven miles to the nearest shop!

lmaoooooooooo!
made me LOL that did :')
i've ridden to school before with mum at school with horsebox waiting for us to arrive and take the horse back! I beat the lads on their bikes though with my hairy old cob :D

I used to ride to school and put my pony on the playing field for the day then ride home again! (and I'm only 25, bet they wouldn't let anyone do that now though!)

Wonderful! You can't be too far from where we used to keep ours :)
Worth checking out for next time - there used to be a NAAFI shop not far from the Co-Op - if it's still there it's well worth checking out :D I used to ride via Bushton (stop there for sweets/ice cream at the probably now shut post office) to Lyneham then back towards Bassett via the BP garage (more sweets/ice cream) - at least I could pretty much guarantee the horse were quiet with traffic and planes :)

Frankie has been christmas tree shopping, does that count?

He has also been to Sainsburys and Tesco, but only in a trailer. :D

Mags - Nope, no post office as far as I'm aware in Bushton anymore! :( Shame...I'd stop there all the time if there was for goddies out hacking :P Haha.

What's NAAFI? *hides from blondeness*

Booo had a feeling the PO would be long gone :( it even used to have a fence you could hitch up to. The NAAFI is (think this is right) the "Navy Army and Air Force Institute", it's like a supermarket but cheaper and sells some random stuff - they're usually on every base.
Used to love riding round that area - plenty of hills, places to gallop and we used to go through the ford Preston to get the horses used to water... ahh the days. We're not far away now but the roads are worse  and there are no hills :(

Yeah we went through Preston on the way back :D didn't meet a ford though...I'm guessing where it's meant to be is all dried up as the two stream bits just had a tiny trickle going across the road....unless it was further up the road? We came out off the bridleway just behind the first/second house you get to if you turn left off the 'main' road coming from bushton way [if that makes sense?]. Is the ford meant to be just on that corner coming out from under the wooden bridge and across? Or is it further up?

Lovely bridleways round there! Onlyplace atm where we could actually have a good gallop without worrying about the hard ground!

The NAAFI store isn't there either anymore :( Am I right in guessing it might have been the fairly large fenced off building now on the right as you come into Lynham from Preston?

A friend and I used to stop outside a corner shop for chocolate when we were fittening the hunters. Ride and lead to fit horses while eating a twix not really advisable! I would love to have seen you galloping home with the shopping tho, priceless! (no co op! Ha ha)
I hope you didn't buy eggs!

There's a little lane that goes to a farm and then back to that road - the ford used to be down there (and there used to be a PC xc course on the farm there too) but with the recent weather it is probably dry at the moment.

Sounds about right with the NAAFI - I don't know, leave a place and 10/15yrs later everything's changed ;)

Oooh, think that's where we were :) God damnit...why can't it still be the same haha! Shops, fords and XC courses all within reach!

Well if you're still anywhere near and out and about hacking, give me a buzz if you want a hacking buddy! :D

We're over by Cricklade now - so just far enough to be annoying and flat and boring! Very envious of you being over that way still, there used to be a few handy "hunt jumps" that were rarely (if ever) wired up as well so keep your eyes peeled :D

Binky01 sounds such fun I bet you'll be shopping on horseback again!

I used to ride to school and put my pony on the playing field for the day then ride home again! (and I'm only 25, bet they wouldn't let anyone do that now though!)

Daughter goes to secondary school in September. Opposite is a farm which does liveries, and there's also 2 small paddocks right by the road - and I know the estate manager fairly well as I used to rent a building from them. We often joke about it (eg do we have to apply for a pony permit in the same way the kids who cycle need a cycle permit?!). However the biggest problem is to get to this school from our place involves the A4 (and the rush hour), so I think it's not going to happen.

Used to stop at the local shop on the way home from a hack, they got so used to seeing us arrive they would dash out and ask what we would like bag it up and bring it out to us, normally with a few spare carrots, got to the stage that it was hard to ride pass as my pony wanted his carrot!

Tehehehehe :D No interesting stories to share from today....my day off and just took Hairy out for a hack [consequently got carted! LOL] and it's been quite boring other than that!

just thought - maybe start training to harness, so you'd have a cart for your goodies ? Wouldn't be nearly as much fun, but maybe you could park in the toddler parking spaces ? Spose it depends on the age ... you could get a blue badge for an oldie ?

^ PMSL. But would that then mean I'd have to be taxed and insured? Lmao. And it would take away the jumping and galloping aspect, unless we modded the bridleway and hunt fences to offroad koejering style! LOL.
