Bless her little heart :(
I do hope they can do something for her, but at least if they can't she isn't suffering tied to a stake not being able to reach water any more.

She just looks so bright and willing to live :(
Alaqua says when she drinks most of the water just comes back out of her nose :(
But she is eating fine and comes running to the gates for attention.

Their vets are looking at ways to cover the hole in her mouth now, maybe there is a way, but she could do with some luck I think!

Poor little bugger. It does make you wonder what kind of a future she will have with such a bad wry nose and associated problems. I hope she survives but it does make you think would it be kinder to pts? Bless her.

ohhh poor little thing!:( just glad she has been rescued now! have to say nevr seen a wry nose in a horse before!

Why,why,why??
Ducks, and prepares ready for the shooting.
Why,Dont people think of the suffering this animal is going through now,and in its future instead of thinking "bless her"
Surely, the kindest thing to do is PTS

If it's survived this far with very substandard care, it has a good chance of further survivalit doesn't actually appear to be suffering (aside from the lack of care up to now). Give it some care and see if it can lie a normal life before reaching for the gun..

I get what you're saying but, especially looking at the other link of the other horses with wry nose living perfectly happy lives, will she suffer??

She's skinny, that can be fixed.
The wry nose can most likely be fixed with an operation, but she can eat and drink perfectly well with it.
It's only the pallette problem, and if that hole can be covered then why not give her a chance?

She isn't in pain from it, and she certainly looks happy!
She hasn't known any different in her short life so far.

I'm sure that Alaqua will do what is best for her, but I think she deserves at least looking into other options before rushing to putting her to sleep.

Re the palate- in horses /animals in general cleft palates tend to be untreatable so that may be the only issue, but may be a PTS issue.

I remember reading about this poor one

OK - I'm hiding behind the sofa ready and protected from missiles.

Put the filly to sleep!

All the money that will be spent on her will be better used to provide food and health care for many more others that will be able to have a useful, happy life.

The soft palette problem - will be ongoing - with the possibility of pneumonia - painful for the horse and again expensive to care for.

I love my horses dearly but to be honest if ever one of my mares had a foal born with a deformaty - it would be PTS immediately.

There are plenty of other horses and ponies that need taking care of.

Just letting you guys know :(
RIP Angel.

"Alaqua Animal Refuge
There is another angel in heaven today. Sadly, our sweet Angel crossed over into the rainbow bridge yesterday. Thanks to our loyal medical director, Jerry, he got her to Auburn University where it was discovered that her birth defects were far more severe than we thought and we lost her due to complications. You were loved during your short time here and we will miss your sweet, loving soul."
