saw a lady riding a horse on the road today, with no hat on, no hi-viz, horse in a headcollar and leadrope as reins, and to top it off, leading another horse whilst riding, on the wrong side of the road...

riding on a road like that should be made a criminal offence. I know a girl who rode out a very lively pony in just a headcollar and leadrope, no hi vis, and only sometimes a saddle....... = zero respect.

What the hell is wrong with these people ????? If they don't care about their own safety, what about that of the horse, or the poor motorist that crashes into them ??? Is that rider fully insured if the worst does happen ??

At the end of the day we do not pay road tax so should respect other road users and ensure you can maintain your horse in a controlled manner whilst out hacking. If your horse decides to spook and bolt down the road I know I'd have more control in proper tack and not wearing a hat is just plain stupid.

I know what you mean! daft people

The other day I was driving down a very busy road that has a 60 limit very bendy and quite dangerous(crocked mile if anyone knows it) to see a man, trotting down the road, no hat, no hi viz, no saddle. Just a bridle. He also kept taking one hand off the rein to hit the Horse on the bum. He was far to heavy to be riding this Horse, he did take the lane off though that leads to the Gypsy site!

I wondered how long it would be before the travelling community were singled out. It just detracts from the fact that it's someones daughter/son/mother/wife/husband who is riding dangerously and not an "outside" community. It is our duty as parents/children/friends to educate people in the dangers of this type of activity. They may be blatantly unaware of the possible dangers as they don't have the benefit of our experience or education.

I don't recommend it but I hack home from the field to the yard on mine bareback an headcollar, bit it's a very quiet road and I trust my lad and i always have a hi-viz on.
Surely she's asking for an accident with no hi-viz :confused;

utter madness!!

Nothing sensible to add to the conversation.

It just frustrates and baffles me beyond belief, the utter stupidity of some people and the example that they set to others

I'm sorry but it isn't exactly rocket science to know that if you fall off without a hat on you could seriously hurt yourself, so wear a hat to protect your head.

Also I am not singleing them out, I have seen other riders that are riding on the roads without tack etc. But this is the worst case I have seen.
