Oh. My. Gosh!!! I may be buying a horse!

My friend's daughter rang me up last night and asked if I wanted to buy her horse that she has had out on loan.

I've wanted him since last year but he has dropped serious condition while being out on loan as it turned out, the loan girl only went to the stable once a week to ride him (it's one of those loan situations gone very wrong). Anyways, my friends dauighter has him back and she wants to sell him as she doesn't have time to work with him (uni, kids, work, life stuff) and she asked if I was interested!

Anyways, I'm going to try him out today when she gets back from work but I need to sort out a vet for vetting, looking into insurance, I'll need to get a dentist out to him if I get him as well. My current tack and rugs that I use on Sen fits my potential horsey as well so that is good.

I've never bought a horse before, only ever had them on loan. What do I do?
What's the best insurance? NFU? How do I insure a horse? I've only ever insured my dog and have rider only insurance with the BHS!! LOL!

Most people seem to rate NFU. I've always found them pretty helpful. Good luck with horsey!

i am with pet plan and i am all insured for jumping xc vet fees £5000 3rd party liability and everything like tht my horse is 14.3 £14.60 very goood

u have to talk nice to them

I rate NFU insurance although my horse is insured with PetPlan (was easier to just do it online there and then). Well worth looking into both imo.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I ppan on getting him vetted but do I need like a 5* vetting or something or just a normal vetting?

Good luck!! I think you need 5* if insuring for more than about 4/5k. I (well my mum) use KBIS and they have been good so far, though never had to claim.

I rode him this evening, jumped, cantered, got chased by a yapping mutt, even my 7 year old rode him down the lane and he was good!!!
