I was so shocked earlier to get a call on my mobile whilst I was on home phone to insurance co who had just agreed to pay for my lads bone scane from Rossdales to say that they will have to cancel as they cannot get hold of the radioactive stuff they need to inject into my lad for the scan.

It is not Rossdales fault but I just feel so sad as was hoping that this time next week I could possibly have had a diagnosis after all this time not knowing whats wrong.

They have said it will be at least 3 weeks maybe longer

Has anyone else had this happen or has yours been cancelled for next week as well?

i have had that happen to me to :-( so i no how you feel. more fustratingly for me when they resheduled they didn't do a bone scan so he could have gone in on the orginally date.

i'm sure they will call you as soon as they can obtain some radioactive stuff. i'll kept my fingerscrossed for.

It's very frustrating isn't it? The vets must be frustrated as well. They did suggest that I take him up for his lameness workup anyway (he has already had 2 lots of workups at my own vets).

Firstly he is terrified and has a severe needle phobia and physically shakes when he sees the trailer but still loads no problem (bless him) and also my vet has been unable to pinpoint it hence the referral for bone scan.

I am in West Sussex so it is a long drive to just go up for workup and then have to take him up again for the bone scan at a later stage.

My vet says he should be ok to wait, it's just the terrible waiting for me to find out what's wrong.

Did you find out what was wrong with your neddie even though you didn't have the bone scan?

oh you must be near me who are your vets? could he not be sent to arundel for a bone scan and they send the data to rossdales??? if you don't wanna discuss this on the forum you can always pm me :-D

Didn't realise you in W Sussex as well, my vets are Mayes & Scrine.

Very long story but sadly I will only use Rossdales due to very bad experience with local referral hospital (not Arundel) who told me there was nothing wrong with my old lad & he was just being naughty and I should tell him to get on with the job.

After paying myself for him to go to Rossdales, it was discovered that he had a broken hip.....so no he wasn't being naughty!!

Rossdales were so wonderful the last time that I really want to take this lad there as well. My vet said depending on the diagnosis he may need surgery which can be done by Rossdales so it makes sense to have all tests etc done there and I have a lot of faith in them after last time.

I really cannot begin to explain how accomodating they were and very patient with all my questions....so different to the original one he went to.

Who are your vets?

As far as I understand it Rossdales have to get their Radioactive stuff from Addenbrookes hospital and I think they also have to have a NHS Consultant there as well. I know when we took our friends horse up there for a bone scan I am sure thats why it was delayed at short notice, we left the horse there for the two days until they could do the bone scan. I also wouldn't go anywhere else apart from Rossdales they sorted out my friends thoroughbred who had Kissing Spin and also another friends horse who had suspensory ligament issues.

We had to wait 6 weeks for Kai to have her scant, she finally got i last month. It's a total pain, especially as we are nearly up to the end of the 12 months we can claim on the insurance.

eoe, yes my vet said Rossdales get it from Addenbrooks. That's reassuring news about your friends horses, my vet is brilliant and when my old lad was sent home with a clean bill of health, luckily she agreed with me that he was NOT ok and referred him to Rossdales. Before he went she told me she was sure it was in his hip area and obviously she was proved right.

She is stumped with this chap & I said that she just cannot pinpoint exactly what is wrong, so it goes without saying that Rossdales now have all my hopes pinned on them

Oh it's worrying with the 12 month deadline rapidly running out isn't it?

What was the diagnosis for Kai?

It happens quite a lot - the machine that is used to make the techtanium has to be serviced every so often, so there is a shortage. Priority is given to the human hospitals!

It happened to me (same time as RonaldoToo) last year around September time. Takes about 2-3 weeks for them to make some more.

Have responded to your PM and then found this post, they told me it would be about 3 weeks but it didn't end up being that long in the end, so you may get lucky.

It confirmed she has arthitis in both hocks, her right lind fetlock and also picked up some small changes in her near side fore. At least she's got 1 good leg! She is only 7. But has never been obviously lame, just not right in canter work.

Blimey 7 is young for arthritis isn't it? I didn't realise they could get it that early, I suppose there's a possibility that my lad could have arthritis somewhere then.

How do you manage Kai?

Is she ok to be ridden?
