Well field resembles a bog so horses have been in since Tuesday and this mucking out twice a day is killing me! However had the day off today as lorry was in for its plating so afte mucking out turned mine and sis horses out for a play in the indoor school. Normally I take a lunge whip in with me and get them to have a spin round then let them cool down and groom each other to finish off. Couldn't be bothered today so just left them to their own devices. Nearlly fell off my chair laughing - they mooched round and groomed each other then decided to play. Well Pidge is 16.3 ISH and Sunny is 14.3 very hairy cob. Pidge and Sunny played heads, reared at each other etc then Pidge grabs Sunnys mane or feathers or long hairs on the back of his legs whilst running round him. They had a whale of a time and it was so funny I'm going to have to see if I can get it on film. So despite mucking out twice a day being a real fag it was lovely to watch the boys playing together this morning

Oh don’t envy the mucking out twice a day, ours are still going out even though it looks like a bog thank goad. But I love seeing them play like that. My boys do it all the time.

gets you fit!! it dosent bother me doing my two twice a day. Mine have to stay in for two days, then go out for one day, as there field is very boggy at the moment.

I also have to walk Bloss inhand for 20mins every morning she is in at the moment, due to her muscle injury, i was at the yard just after 530am this morning

Pidge I know what you mean, our horses have been in for a week and my boy had a tiny patch of mud fever and got a swollen leg.

Thankfully down now and hope to pop him out tomorrow for an hour or so if this sun today dries up a little of the water at least!!! Then I can have a night off!

Jo, that's exactly what our two do! Although Pice has an advantage in the fact that his neck is twice as long as Sunnys. But must admit I'd never seen Pidge grab hold of Sunnys mane before today, very funny! Sunny tolerates it so much and then stands there pawing the ground, whilst Pidge does tiny rears. It would explain how in the summer we find bits of Sunnys mane or tail in the middle of the field

PG, wouldn't mind if I had Sunny to muck out as he is so clean, Pidge on the other hand is decidedly scutty! What time do you have to get up then to get to yard at 5.30am? My alarm goes off at 5.30am and I get to yard just after 6am.

Why do you think we have full neck rugs, he, he! With Black’s mane being over 2ft long there is lots to grab! Saying that we have had a few ripped rugs!

I love seeing them play, they make me laugh!

Jo do they mark each other when playing? as ours are pretty rough with each other and Pidge quite often comes in with chunks out of his neck despite the fact he has a neck cover on!
Don't mention rug repairs to sis as we caught Pidge last year pulling Sunnys rug that much it was straining at the seams, all the stitching comes away where the surcingle attaches to the rug. I of course deny all knowledge of who could be to blame but fail miserably as only the two of them in the field!
Do they grab the long hairs on their hindquarters as this seems to be Pidges favourite trick?

freestyler, supposed to be nice again tomorrow so hopefully fields will have dried up a bit, however heavy rain forecast again for Sunday - like we need more rain - NOT!

Their favourite trick is to go for each others feathers, they bend down on their knees and grab. Blacks is more bargey then anything else and bums Bodey quite a lot. We don’t seem to get to much damage but Bodey has come in with a few little bald patches, one above his eye and one under his rug. Blacks seems to be fine, so I think Blacks is rougher then Bodey.
They are like puppy’s playing.
Oh yes, we have two rugs waiting to be stitched up at the moment and we are constantly playing rug swap. Blacks has one of Gem’s (GinaGem’s horse) rugs on and Bodey has one of Blacks rugs on! It’s a nightmare!

Oh I'm so glad its not just our 2 that play like this then! Unfortunately we can't swap rugs as Pidge's 7'3" rugs would need a foot taking off them before they would fit Sunny!

Ha!! Yep, they are not too pleased when I get into work dripping everywhere!!

I note you come from Staffordshire,
smile.gif
I was born and bred up there!!

Stafford, lived in Brocton and use to show jump/pony club/camp etc at Stafford County Show Ground (before it was done up of course!!), about 23 years ago!!!

that's not good, do you do that every day? I'm normally up at 6am to muck out etc, and then get home from yard about 8ish after bringing in, bedding down, riding, feeding etc and usually go to bed just after 9pm.
I can have sis horse mucked out in a fraction of the time it takes me to do Pidge, I keep asking her to swap but she never seems keen...........

he'd probably rip it off and roll in it!! he really is disgusting!! You should see the state of his stable rug.....he just tramps his sh!t around the stable then just lies down in it all.....

in the field he takes joy in digging HUGE muddy holes and then roles in them. This time of year is obviously his fav, as the field is waterlogged he can dig muddy WET holes, so comes in dripping in wet mud

freestyler, do what I do hair out of scrunchie in car with blowers on full cold till I cool down, then on warm to dry hair - does that make me a scut? I do get changed and use plenty of body spray at work though!
What a small world, I grew up in Weeping Cross so only a hop skip and a jump away from Brocton. County Show is lovely now isn't it, I would like to perhaps take Pidge there someday.............................. ooh stopped daydreaming for there for a minute

I have literally just turned G out after he's been in for a fortnight. Took him for a walk and he went nuts, so I just chucked him out. Fingers crossed he's not shouting ....yet!

Pidge I shall try that with the car blowers!!

Weeping Cross, Ha, I know that as I use to go to Walton High School ! Very small world, all my family still live down there, I was the one who wanted to move to London and make my fortune!!
cool.gif
Instead I bought myself a horse and now now try to afford to live!!

snap me too - was there from 82-89 as did A levels there. I think having a horse makes us very poor.................

Showing my age ... I was there until 81-82... !!College for a year and left for London in 1984... yikes.... quite depressing really!!!!!We kept our ponies in Milford and use to love hacking for hours and hours on Cannock Chase, although I believe now a lot of it has been sectioned off... those were the days...ponies were as fit as anything.. no wonder they use to jump like stags!!!

you wouldn't like Cannock Chase now as a lot of it is sectioned off and the nice canter/gallop tracks have been transformed from nice peat to stone by all the mountain bikers

There are loads of places I can remember going for a burn when a teenager and now all you can do on them is walk! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Pidge, no way!!! I hear from my parents that you have to pay a yearly fee now apparently to ride on it but all the gallops gone??? I use to love the stepping stones, pump station, and that was a good old gallop inbetween!! Last time I went on there was about... ummm... 7-8 years ago I think, I took my hubby and we hired horses from a yard backing onto the chase (was Boxing Day)... we only went out for an hour or so only touched a little bit of what I remember... cant do anything now eh???
