I just sneezed and my friend in the room next door just said back 'bless you' (I can hear everything and vice versa). Also everytime it rains water comes in through the kitchen roof. The fridge leaks, its freezing cold in the house.
Its a typical terraced house and there are 8 of us living in it.
Oh the joys... and its not even very cheap :(

What!!!!! Just because you are a student does not mean you must have substandard accommodation. PM me. I own a letting and estate agency and am a letting agent by profession and this is my speciality.

DONT PUT UP WITH IT. THERE ARE LAWS TO PROTECT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your landlord should be fixing your house!

For instance, at our flat we have no hot water (and its been 5 weeks!) so no shower etc. and our landlord is getting about fixing it!

Shame landlords dont have laws on time!

Just bug landlord/letting agents lots! I am in a student house at the moment and have made it clear I won't be taken advantage of! when she ignored my emails, I went to her office and things were then sorted swiftish! she now responds to by emails/phonecalls very quickly if there are any queries!

yep you've just got to kick off about everything! they sort out the properties of the people that harass them the most and just leave the others. My old student house we had a working shower with hot water maybe 70% of the time, NOT fun in winter! My friends house the roof fell in in the living room, luckily no-one was hurt! As for the cold just get tonnes of duvets!

Dear Students!

Oh you lucky things!! When I was at uni, I did a stink working for Manchester Student Homes, (run by Man Uni/Union) their website is full of advice, and has a section on what you should expect from your Landlord etc. Same laws apply across the country! Good luck.

my house is so cold it's unreal! (mainly because we are trying to get by without heating as long as possible-certain people being stingy!) And what really winds me up, is (not so much with this landlord as with last years) is that it would take my mother ringing up about things to get them to finally sort it! aaaaah why do they seem to think that as students our opinion doesn't matter! i know exactly how you feel.

I REALLY don't miss the house I lived in in my final yr of Harper!! I miss my housemates and the freedom but that's IT!
Mould on nearly every wall, damp, leaking toilet, lack of heating, NO insulation AT ALL!!....the list goes on...!

Ahh the joys of student living! I would go back tomorrow though!

Aw, you're in Preston. That's where I went to uni. There are some horrid houses there! And the view isn't much better when you get outside!

After i finished i moved into a horrible house on lauderdale st. I could hear the man next door coughing all night and phoning abroad at funny hours. He sounded like a death rattle.

We also had slugs in the kitchen, hideous furnishing (prob a fire hazard), no oven when we moved in - had to call the gad board because the gas taps were just left and dangerous. It was gross!

Ih, and hallucination inducing carpet!

Was fairly lucky with uni houses quality-wise but my first was freeeeeeeeeezing. Required a duvet, sleeping bag, cosy pjs and a dressing gown to stay unfrozen in bed.

I'm sure you'll remember your time there fondly though! Make the most of the SU bar!

Preston is not the most beautiful city to be honest! Looked at one student house that was underneath a railway bridge! Its alright on night out though and not too far from home :)

Our first year house was utility bills included, which sounds great, but the landlord locked the thermostat and heating timer away so we couldn't access them and the heating was always off. After multiple complaints we started heating the house with electric fan heaters, and having the grill and oven on with the oven door open :D :D

Landlord eventually got the message and put the heating on at a better temperature!

I miss my uni accommodation!

A nice bungalow on a farm, stables and land right outside (went to Hartpury). Our heating was always on when we wanted :) House had it's problems like the lights turning off when they over heated etc but we learnt to love it because of it's faults. Landlord was on hand to fix anything except when the heating broke last winter and he was on holiday! No heating in a bungalow with rubbish insulation for a week when it was about -13 degrees and snowed in!

Finished uni this summer and I miss the place and friends so much!
