Mare done this overnight. They were all in a new field for a break from the mud at home, but I've walked them all back now as I can't see where she's done it. Safer at home I think. She's now shut in the shelter, and I'll be cleaning and bandaging twice daily for a bit... Just when it was looking like I could shorten my daily to-do list!
Vet friend looked at it and said that's the way to go, as once cleaned up it became clear there wasn't enough skin to suture back up. Hoping I can let her mooch back out with her friend once it starts to granulate

Ah, nightmare. These things always happen at the worst time, don't they? Your vet friend is right sometimes healing from the inside out is the only way. You've got a solid plan: clean, bandage, keep her quiet. Once that granulation starts, she'll be much happier back out with her friend. Hang in there.

Did your vet friend talk about clipping the area so it can be cleaned and examined properly?
She did that for me, so has seen a vet.
That's something I'd expect to need antibiotics and painkillers. I'd dress it with manuka honey as well - it did wonders for my big mare.
Have painkillers anyway, and antibiotic spray from farm. Honey will be something to add in future bandage changes, thanks!

I really REALLY recommend this stuff!

Go onto cases, my chap was the fourth photo down! He took the back of his knee out jumping out of his field over a hedge… we bandaged and he ended up with really bad lymphangitis… so took it all off and put this on twice a day and the progress made in a short time was incredible. All healed up & no white hair or granulated tissue.

Wow, thank you!

I hope your horse is doing well.
Hi! Thank you for your good wishes. Yes, she is doing well, I ordered some of the Equiade, and have been diligently applying it, and it all looks good so far 🤞🏻 she's much happier without a bandage on, and without the surface of the wound being disturbed by unwrapping it seems to be doing ok. I'll post a picture when she's due her clean off and reapplication

It was going good until it wasn't... She somehow managed to catch and reopen the wound, which then got something in it to cause a local infection, because she would not let me look, let alone touch. Had to wait for her to be sedated so it could be flushed again and scrubbed out. Small amount of pus... Lots of proud flesh forming 🙈 antibiotic spray onto the site for a few days, as even with sedation she was kicking out and swinging her hind end around when it was touched, so I won't be able to clean it like I did today again. Hopefully that will do the trick, and then I'll be able to touch and try the Equiade again for the proud flesh. Between her, the bay boy constantly getting abscesses this winter and some disasters with the cattle, I've had enough now!
