Today my husband had his first proper lesson on his horse. He's had the horse since last June, and only started riding last march. His horse is incredibly honest and kind, and they mostly just hack, normally accompanied by me on my Exmoor! They did go round a mini hunter trial in September which they loved. I'm pregnant now so not riding and husband has decided he would like to learn properly...hurrah! So we hired a school, a friends mum who is an instructor came along and he learnt all about diagonals, canter leads and ended up doing a mini grid. Verdict...a lot to work on but he really enjoyed it, as did his lovely horse who hasn't set foot in a school for at least six years! (came from a lovely happy hacker home!)

Some pics...not many cos I was to busy being nervous wife!

Now I'm not particularly short so you can get an idea of height!

Next stop...would love to get them both into a local WH class...I love the turn out side and not the jumping! So he can do that bit!!!

Yay!!! That looks super - v proud of your OH, he will need to tell my OH about the joys of having a big horse and riding properly next time we see you at an Exie show!! (Hint hint as to who this is by the way...Mamie, FC, Mabel ;) )
Hope pregnancy is treating you well! Xxx

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii! :D teehee guessed straight away, do I get a prize?! :) will be at Devon area in April if you are! If C can be pursuaded to show either or both of the terrible two xx

blimey OH is very impressive if thats his first proper lesson! Good for both of you :)

Thanks, he is pretty impressive! He had some lessons on a schoolmaster on our honeymoon in Spain but has had none on his own horse, he literally just learnt by clinging on and kicking on and with a lot more guts than I've ever had! Lots of fine tuning on position needed says instructor but he has ALOT of determination and doesn't get scared or worried, just wants to get it right! It helps that his horse is literally the most honest horse I've ever met! :)

Hoping to be at Devon show - got some serious fitness work to do with Effs and about 3 months of mud to remove from my little angel (ha!) ... Also have cousins wedding in Scotland so need to work out how I get back in time! Xx

Will be lovely to see you if you are there! I know the feeling re mud!!!! Xx

Very impressive espec the jumping pic!!

Must be a man thing cos my OH just took to riding like been doing it all his life and was told in his first lesson and first time on a horse ever he was a natural!

Thanks for the replies, I'm very proud wife! It took me a while to get used to having such a big chap around (we have three other ponies all under 12.2!!!) but despite his size and dinner plate feet he is a very sweet, polite boy who is an angel to handle. I love my OH's enthusiasm, if he falls off he vaults (VAULTS! The horse is 17 hands!!!) straight back on with a big grin. Agreed Jam14 must be a man thing, mine is sickenly good at every sport, rugby, swimming, surfing, tennis etc etc , I can't even throw a ball :D
