Just a self pitying post really! Millie is off to the AHT at Newmarket (120 miles away

) in a couple of weeks for a 'full lameness workup' probably culminating in an MRI scan. Bit depressing that our vet think she is that bad, but equally glad we will hopefully get some answers.

All I keep thinking is thankfully she is a mare though because if it does turn out to be something long term at least we can breed from her (before anyone shouts, we've already ruled out any joint problems etc, vet says extremely unlikely it is anything she would pass on, she has had a foal before, is very well bred and well put together - she was previously owned by a good ex-international SJ who considered her worth breeding a potential competition horse from, and the foal would only be for us to keep so not indiscriminately breeding for the sake of it!)

Sorry to hear that, however I would be grateful your horse is being refered there. It took a year on me having to ride my horse to kame him more lame 2/10s for my vets to diagnose with scans and xrays, my horse eventually started collapsing when they decided to send him away to Rossadles for a bone scan, which they were able to diagnose that he had sprained his sacro-iliac joint quite badly

Yeah, we are very very lucky with our vet as he absolutely loves a challenge and is the sort of vet who will call us up on a saturday afternoon when he isn't working with another idea to run by us or will pop by after work to see how she is etc! So he was very swift in referring us, we'd have been there weeks ago had he not been called away because of a family emergency but it is still only 8 weeks since she first went lame, which isn't that long really.
Fingers crossed it is something that rest will heal!

My horses both went to newmarket together for operations and they looked after them really well and did a really good job. Its a really nice place.

When you have 2 horses you think if one is off you'll always have the other!! Not in my case - they were both off for months after operations!!!

Echo the others in that the AHT will give Millie the best care possible and at least you should end up with some answers.
My old boy was refered there, to Sue Dyson, not known for her 'bedside manner beware

!, but had the best diagnostic help available including an MRI scan.
