I have 9 ladies for “hen do” equine experience. We are going for a ride etc but since they are all novices that will only be an hour. Apparently there will be an hour of “equine fun games”, which don’t have to involve an actual horse. Any ideas of what to do? I am rubbish at making things like this up!!

Pin the tail on the donkey!? Riding boot wanging competition? Fastest person to stuff a haynet to a certain weight? Fastest person to carry to full buckets of water a certain distance, and measure how much is left? Wheelbarrow races (either human or actual wheelbarrows)?

blimey, I’ve surprised myself with that lot!

Love these ideas ?
Hobby horses are a good one. You could make your own with cardboard cut out heads, they could make their own?
apple/carrot bobbing?

Eddie Izzard dressage test imitation game? [this came from some deep dark unexplored part of my reptile brain]. Just google.

You could also, if you didn't want to go totally 'away from horse' do 'teach a horse to roll a ball' quickest. Occasionally I do do some fit ball soccoer stuff with my Medium level [ill atm] dressage horse, when the weather's foul, or I just feel like interacting. Most horses can learn fairly quickly to roll a ball with their nose. The person who wins will have the best feel for timing and reward. x

Make your own hobby horse, materials provided, and then compete them in gymkhana races which could include apple bobbing, sack race, egg and spoon, alarm race (you are asleep in your sack until the alarm goes, with your eyes shut, then you run to your horse, get on and ride as fast as you can), musical chairs/blocks and barrel racing

Love the idea of hay net stuffing, if you have heats and a final you could get the whole yard done for you ?

How about a generation game style reassemble a bridle?

If you have a tolerant horse could they have a plaiting / beauty pageant comp? - most glam pony wins? (Provide ribbons tinsel etc etc)

I'd maybe go for something gymkana-eqsue but with most of the time spent off the horses- so e.g. games like, ride up, dismount (ideally with a helper to hold if v. novice), do something like apple bobbing, run back, next person runs up, bobs for the apple, mounts the horse, rides back and so on.

Could equally do mounted pin the tail on the donkey with horses stood still and a helper to hold etc.

You could mix the hobby horses in with this too, as well.

If you have stuff (e.g. glitter, ribbon etc) you could spend some time glamming the horses up before this, as well, and doing a tack and turnout style parade.

The less sporty the hens the funnier it is I’d also do a funny quiz like name the colour of the horses teeth and other silly questions to win a grooming session with the yards nobelest steed and then bring out the smallest Shetland you can find ?
