My horse has clicky joints, and is showing signs of stiffening up a bit. At 11 I'd rather not put her on a supplement just yet (of course if she needs it I'll give it to her) as she's sound and doesn't seem to be bothered, but I think it would be good to help her a bit.

Thanks to some great advice from here we're revisiting her diet and I'd like to add an oil in - was looking at Cod Liver oil, but then also read that Apple Cider Vinegar and Linseed oil are great.

Can someone advise me on the best one to get?

To be honest with your horse being 'stiff' & having 'clicky joints' I think it's time to use a supplement. There's no particular age to start them on, many people have them on a supplement as a matter of course. I've a 12 year old & a 17 year old & they are both on the Feedmark supplement & both are going really well. There was nothing wrong with their joints or their movement & I wanted to keep it that way.

Thanks. She was diagnosed with Kissing spines recently so wasn't sure if the stiffness was part of that. Vet believes arthritis is a risk given how she moves. Was thinking I'd try her on an oil to start to see if there was an improvement on it alone, before going down the route of expensive supplements. I have no problem putting her on them if she needs them though!

Linseed oil is good for lots of things so would be beneficial anyway, I'm not keen on cod liver oil personally; it doesn't feel right to me giving a herbivore an animal product! X

My mare started to get a clicky hock and show signs of mild stiffness at 11. Since then she's been on linseed and a joint supplement, we've tried several and she's currently on Equimins Flexijoint, with good results. No matter what the age if my horse's joints need support I would use a supplement.
