i am trying to give my mare more energy but not by changing the feed she has..
what difference to her would salt and/or oil make if put in her feed in small amounts?
or other supplements from general supermarkets etc..?
thanks x

Oil is good, I feed corn oil that i buy from tesco, you can feed cod liver oil from horse feed companies but it is more expensive. I think other people feed sunflower oil or veg oil but I have always been told to feed corn oil or soya oil.

Oil provides high amounts of energy, usually used for weight gain. Someone can probably give a more scientific explanation!
Is the horse in good condition, not over or under weight, fit, sound? If the horse is over or underweight or really unfit this would be an obvious reason why it is lazy.
I saw from a previous post you feed cool mix and sugar beet etc, it may be if the horse is really lazy you may need to feed a higher energy feed as sugar beet and cool mix are non heating.
