The Black Baggage does not like the Canada geese in the field, in fact she tries to polish them off at every opportunity!
Last week, MD was riding her in field & BB spotted a lone goose a dozen or so feet from the pond......the perfect victim!

Goosey possibly having an idea that he was perhaps in some danger here decides to shuffle sideways a bit to get out of the 'line of fire'!
With BB's black eyes (& blacker heart!) firmly fixed on him, goosey takes a wary step to the left, then another, then a third!

Unfortunately, he is so busy watching out for the murderous BB, he doesn't realise he has now run out of terra firma & his last sideways step is into fresh air over the steep bank above the pond & with a loud honking, he topples gently sideways like a plane whose landing gear has failed!

Poor goosey is now lying on his side in the mud, flapping frantically with one wing & honking his head off!
The other geese (who had sensibly retreated to the pond when they saw BB coming!), all stop swimming & turn to stare at him!
The unfortunate goosey is absolutely plastered in mud & now resembles Swamp Thing!

Evil BB does the pony equivalent of smirking presumably & MD is rather wickedly clinging round her neck with tears running down her face!
Goosey finally freed himself, heaved himself upright & toppled into the pond with what little dignity he had left!
(He made a full recovery & was fine the following day!)

LOL! I love your stories JAK, am so glad you've returned to the forum

I don't think goosey found it very funny though, lying upside down in the mud with both his wives staring & sniggering at him!
He is a particularly large fine specimen & he looked, well, a right prat to be honest with you!

I'd forgotten how lovely your ponies were.......posh, 'proper' versions of BB! lol

It reminds me of when we took the terriers to a large park when we went home once, Beddington Park for any locals), huge old style park, nooks and crannies everywhere and various small hills. Throwing balls for the dogs, one went over the hill, Teal raced after it - straight into a very green slimy pond, it looked just like grass from a distance. She literally was paddling air before she landed in it. We couldn't stand straight for laughing, it was a classic so I can imagine how MD felt!!

You wicked woman you, laughing heartlessly, poor doggy!

Never a camera around when you need one though, is there?
Dunno 'bout you Pat but I would happily have sent off film of poor unfortunate creature in mildly sticky situation to get my 200 dollars or whatever!

Does it mean I'm evil if I admit to laughing at Goosey?

Yep, very!

Serve goosey right, he's always getting in the way, pooping in the pond & generally making the place look untidy!
He sits in the field, looking like a big fat rock most of the time - I don't think he's terribly bright as he's always the last one to run for cover! lol

So would I!

We still giggle about it, I'm sitting here with a cheesy grin plastered all over me just remembering! Poor Teal was mortified, she didn't like water at the best of times so having a green dunking then having to have a bath too; that was too much for her and she took to her bed for the rest of the day!

I've even bought a cheapy camera phone for just those times and guess what, it's always left in the kitchen; how dumb is that?!

LOL!

We have two resident pigeons, one of which always gets stuck under the pallets and ALWAYS needs rescueing
smirk.gif
I'm very surprised the farm cats haven't had it yet, although they're so fat I think it's more likely they just can't be bothered!
wink.gif

Poor, stupid pigeon is obviously related to poor, stupid goosey! Why does dense pigeon keep going under the pallets in the first place, if all he ever does is get stuck? (Obviously male! lol)

Pat, yep, that's the way it works with cameras! Good idea though, having a one to hand!
We try & remember to take the digital one with us but interesting things only ever seem to happen on the one day we've left it behind!

Dense pigeon thinks that 'this time' will be different! 'This time' he won't get stuck, and 'this time' he won't need rescueing.....dense pigeon is also rather porky and has been known to become wedged between the slats.
I'm convinced that the farm cats view him with such disdain that they would consider it below them to even make the effort to kill him!

Dense, porky pigeon sounds like he needs a permanent 'minder'!

Let's hope he doesn't meet up with any lady pigeons - I don't think the pigeon world would benefit greatly from him passing HIS genes on!

Well, (un)fortunately for him, Coral has taken it upon herself to be his rescuer....she even checks under the pallets now before she goes to say hello to the ponies!!
blush.gif

Good lord I hope that never happens...he IS the Forrest Gump of the pigeon world, I really don't think the world would be prepared for another one like him
wink.gif

Absolutely hilarious!
grin.gif

I am beaten.......fat, wedged-in-pallet pigeon is far more entertaining than dull, rock-impersonating, pond polluting goosey, I think we should swap!
grin.gif

Hey PF, I was a bit worried when MD first said about it, in case we had to go down to pond & rescue him......he's a good size, wouldn't be very easy to handle I imagine!

No idea why BB dislikes them so much!

Well I would say I'd send him to you with a note around his neck, but given he hasn't worked out how to leave the barn yet I don't think he'd stand a fat-cat in hells chance of getting to you

This has reminded me of something that happened many years ago now.
I was out walkig my mothers dog with my boyfriend at the time and his dog. We had driven to a local beauty spot. We had just got out of the car when boyfriends dog spotted a potential playmate and pelted full speed across the car park heading straight for this unsuspecting dog. What the dog didnt know that there was a footpath cut down into the rock of the hill, this channel ran for a couple of hundred yards, if you were walking along the footpath you would'nt be seen from ground level, infact I have ridden it and you can't see ground level from horseback either. Needless to say dog suddenly disappeared from view, we heard a yelp followed by a scream. The dog had missed landing on some unsuspecting walker by a couple of inches. Dog was fine, just a little shocked and dented pride. Luckily the walker did see the funny side!

Nice one JACQSZOO - poor walker, they must've got the fright of their lives! You don't really expect to be pelted by flying pets out walking usually!

Glad to hear doggy survived his first flying lesson though!
