Ok after reading another post - what would i be eligible to compete in

My horse is 5years old/only 4notional winnings on his card/currently doing B Nov very confidently but dont wont to progress to quickly until he has more experience at this height and at 1metre.
Aiming to do bicton and national amateur championships but what else could i be doing/aiming for.
Also national amateur championships (90cms/1ms) where are they held? etc etc
Just new to the showjumping game and BSJA website is officially useless
I know i can do B Nov second round but that actually progresses to be quite big and i dont want to go to high to quickly as hes so young.
 
ok I take it he is actually rising 6 now? if so then you won't want to be looking at the age classes as for 6yos they range from 1m15 up (Bicton are 1m10/1m15 for 6yos). The national 6yo classes go up to 1m30 at finals if not actually higher.

You may be best looking at the Blue Chip qualifiers BUT they are half way finished now so they may be a bit early for you this year. The good thing about Blue Chip is that the finals are only a bit bigger than the qualifiers. Eg the novice final will be about 1m in the first round going up to about 1m10/1m15 in the final jump off. This in comparison to the British Novice finals which go up to 1m20 in the final jump off of the regionals which last year were won on pure speed and then 1m25 in final jump off at final which again was still majorly a speed competition (there were horses qualified for the HOYS newcomers final in the BN national final!).

There are also the amateur champs which will probably be the first champ you could sensibly aim for. the qualifiers happen all year round with regionals in about Septemeber/October time and the Finals in December although I half remembering hearing something about it being bought forward slightly but I may have been imagining things.

There are qualifying classes from 90cm up and the finals are only marginally larger than the qualifiers. Also this year by the final jump off there were under 15 combinations so it wasn't all about speed at the lower heights.

Even if you don't intend to do regionals you should aim to get your double clears in the classes you are competing in eg BN and Dis purely as a marker to yourself that you are getting consistent double clears.

You've also got the Scope qualifiers starting Katherine James 1m is £100 (i THINK) and Adventer 1.05 is £300. Final is at Stafford August bank Holiday weekend. You'll also have show centres doing their own championships such as Dorset, Wales and West etc.
