The Arab racehorses are a lot harder to ride at work than the TB's, they never forget anything and it depends on which side of bed they got out of on how they behave.

Don't they just? We had both on our yard and I preferred riding work on the tbs anyday.

An Arab, without a shadow of a doubt.

I have a purebred mare and after many years of having various breeds would never get anything else.

A pure-bred Arabian should be known from his/her character. It was the sire--according to Bedouin beliefs) who passed character, confirmation and moral traits (such as courage, gentleness, docility and lack of vice) to all his foals. Arab breeders said that a mare, indeed, gave nothing to her young; rather she was like a locked coffer, that whatever is put into her would be preserved and later come out unaltered. A pure-bred stallion, meanwhile, would eat from no nose-bag save his own; would love trees, greenery, shade and running water, and would whinny joyously when he sights them. When he drank, he first ruffled the water, stirring it with a forefoot; if prevented from doing so, sometimes he knelt and ruffled it with his muzzle. His ears should prick constantly, his lip twitch, his eyes rove and he should turn his neck to the left and the right as if about to speak.

They're traditionally called 'drinkers of the wind': "The pure-bred is well-proportioned; his ears are slender and mobile; his bones are heavy; his jaws are lean; his nostrils are as wide as a lion's mouth; his eyes beautiful, black, and prominent. His neck is long; his breast is thrust forward; his withers are prominent; his loins are thick and short; his haunches are powerful; his ribs in front are long and those behind short; his belly is lean; his rump is rounded; his forearms are long like those of an ostrich and well muscles as those of a camel; the veins of the legs are barely perceptible; the hoof is of a black, solid color; the hairs of the mane and tail are thick and fine; his flesh is firm; and the tail is very thick at the root and tapered toward the end."

Arab's all the way. Although I think that they are one of those breeds where you either have a v.good one or a v.nutty one there's no happy medium! I own a pure bred arab and wouldn't swap him for the world, he's clever, kind, down to earth (he frequently nannies other horses past 'scarey' things) and will have a go at anything. And here he is...

. Don't get me wrong my boy has done everything for me and done it well, but there is just so much prejudice against them that tbh i could do without the hassle everytime i go out.

Well, as you might expect, I voted for Arabs! Without the Arab there would be no TB!

Zizz you should come to the stud/eventing yard where my Arab lives - no prejudices there! Tobago is the only Arab on the yard, which is full of huge great eventers (the senior stallion is an advanced eventer by Jumbo), and it's a traditional place run by a BHSI/BE-Accredited trainer. Yet they love my little Arab stallion, even though he's a 'show-Arab', and a noisy, attention-seeking adrenalin-junkie!

We do get occasional prejudice from visitors, though, so I know what you mean. Nothing nasty, mostly they just say "he's too pretty" or "he's incredibly beautiful but he doesn't look real"! How can a horse be 'too pretty'? 'Too pretty' for what?

Yes, he's pretty:

But he also has good conformation...

...and fabulous movement, and he will be expected to perform under saddle same as any other horse. My last 15.1 Arab competed successfully, at senior affiliated level, in eventing, sj and dressage. And drag-hunted and won hunter trials. Tobago is an international in-hand champion (i.e. about as pretty as an Arab can get lol!), but this should not stop him from being a good athlete!
