WHY has that been deleted? Did it kick off or something

??!!?

I didnt see, what did it say?

I have seen a number of horses that are advertised by them that I like the look of....

was it anything bad (for future reference?!

)

It was just people's experiences when I left it, which is why I am wondering why on earth it got deleted? Surely people deserve to know other's experiences?!? And general consensus was some nice horse but overpriced, and some had had very bad experiences, a few had had good.

I,m sure it was there a few minutes ago. It was the usual stuff, some people saying good things others slagging them off.

I saw it earlier today, and there was definitely some defamatory things on it (Bean88's post).

It's a shame, as it's perfectly possibly to say that you've had a bad experience with a company and would not recommended them, without being defamatory and therefore having the thread deleted.

I saw the thread late last night, and there were some pretty defamatory things said.

For future ref, there's nothing libellous about asking a question and inviting PMs... it's about making public a comment that would "lower" the subject in the eyes of a right-thinking person... So in terms of actual risk, personal conversations that aren't published are low risk.. Comments that could be posted by anyone (including rivals, disgruntled ex-partners, others with an axe to grind) and read by anyone are relatively high risk. It's actually a risk to the host or broadcaster as much as the person saying it, hence HHO taking steps, and being seen to take 'all reasonable steps', to prevent it happening on the forum.

A public question followed by a request for PMs only would be safer - if not exactly in the spirit of a forum!

Edited to add: God I sound like a right boring arse!

But the thing with that philamena- it wasn't my post, but I would be interested in the replies, so anyone would most likely have to send out 10 pms to all the different people. Also if someone has directly pm'ed the OP, how are any other viewers to know and ask for the same? This then means multiple posts about the same things, clogging up the forum.

If a dealer has nothing to hide, they shouldn't mind being posted about should they

Irritating all the same...

Valid points but I think what the admin were saying is that - right or wrong, our opinions could get the board shut down while all is disputed. So, with anything slightly contenious, maybe a request for pm's is a better idea. I do have knowledge of RI and would be happy to share but have done so privately before!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's the right thing that people can't get helpful info posted online - that's what I love about forums and the net in general, the democracy of it and how much useful stuff you can find out. But HHO has to be seen to take steps to prevent possible defamation because that's your first line of legal defence if you get a complaint that someone used your site / medium to say something defamatory - that you did all you could to prevent it happening. And what counts as fair comment / opinion and what counts as defamatory can be a bit of a grey area sometimes, so they're likely to be overly protective... Consumer progs / articles take it very seriously before they name a company or give any info that would help people identify a specific company, even when they've done quite a lot of specific research and found repeated evidence that they're dodgy... that would include making a concerted and repeated effort to give the criticised organisation right of reply etc.

But I know what you mean - it's a shame - I'm looking to buy again later this year and the 'what do you know of this dealer' posts I always go for because they're really interesting, even though I have nothing useful to add!

Apart from getting the board into trouble you could also get yourself into great trouble, those who run RI are active on the net and im sure have ventured on here before, i personally wouldnt risk saying anything myself!

Also, i think peoples experiences are their own, its a personal bug bear of mine, being th so many 'dodgy dealer' experiences I know of, many end up being he new owner or jus a young horse/change of scenery scenario, and in some cases think it on unfair on the dealer, not so much RI as they are v well known, but small time dealers you could do serious damage too.

THis is equally true. Not to judge any of the people here who have posted about negative experiences in the slightest, but I have to say that like everyone, I knew lots about the concept of nightmare tradesmen, until I shacked up with a self-employed builder and discovered the very real phenomenon that is the nightmare customer!
