As above really :p For those who don't know me I'm vertically challenged but have surprisingly long legs for my height  and calves are (fairly) slim. Ariat close contact chaps size XS fit me fine although they are a teensy bit wide on the calf and a teensy bit long but manageable. I have a birthday coming up and fancy some new boots for jumping (I have some rather pretty but desperately uncomfortable boots which I shall persist with for dressage :o )

Ariats or Toddys - the Moutain Horse ones are too clumpy for my liking! *says the Ariat snob over here*

Also, the Ariats are really toasty in the winter...

personally wouldn't touch mountain horse boots as I have broken my foot twice in them by literally dismounting from my horse. My preference would be for ariats - very comfy and stay looking good with little effort as my poor terrains would testify :D or just to add something else into the mix - de niros - don't know how I hadn't found them before but managed to get an absolutely perfect fit and they still look good after a couple of years of competeing :)

I think you might find the ariats too wide in the leg unless you also have small feet! I wear a medium in ariat half chaps and the bromonts fit me really well but I do have size 8 feet...

I adore my Mountain Horse ones. I wear them daily and for competition and theyve lasted with continual use for a good 2 years wear and only now showing a tiny weeny bit of wear.

Id love Ariats but theyre too narrow for me (to make them comfortable).

ariat bromonts all the way - best investment ive made in a while, had mine a year and a half (only wear them competing), and they are still going strong! :) sooo comfy, and very warm in the winter too. totally worth the price imo. :)

If you're an XS in Ariat chaps I'd think the Bromont would be too big - I tried some when they first came out and they were huge on me, unless they do them smaller now. I'll throw De Niro into the mix too, just to be obtuse and because I lurve mine - loads of different sizes, widths and heights.:)

See, Marie R is singing the praises of her MHs too - completely loves them! But she is, erm, something of a different shape to me ;)

Ariat Bromonts get my vote, wore mine all last winter, daughter has just borrowed them for a week and has totally abused them, working on a yard and getting then soaked through in heavy rain twice:(. (I was gutted) For her penance she spent a half an hour cleaning and polishing them when she got home from her week away they now look brand new, but don't tell her said that!

See Bromonts don't fit me AT ALL as they swamp my skinny ankles :( I have skinny ankles and then "proper" calves, my Ariat chaps are Medium...

However, my Mountain horse boots fit a treat, and the new ones are definitely NOT clumpy, and have a new improved zip, which is the only thing I would change on mine... I am going to replace my current ones with the "new" style field boots as I think they are gorgeous. A friend has the toddy ones, and loves them, they look incredibly smart on!

Just for those who thought Mountain horse ones are "clumpy", really?!!:

My long boots are Mark Todds, if that helps? I love them. Not that you've ever seen me actually on a horse competing in them mind you, so probably not that helpful! I would like mine to drop a tiny bit more - fine on the horse, not so good for actual walking, and cannot walk with spurs on as they give me blisters on the ankle then. Fine without spurs though! Mine need replacing as when the horse landed on my foot he kindly wrecked the leather on the toe. As well as wrecking my toe completely = trip to A&E and one bad fracture!

For compeition or daily wear?

For the former the new model MH ones (the expensive ones!!) they are utterly divine.
For everyday wear then the Ariats get my vote

This forum has a lot to answer for- some how I ended up buying mountain horse supreme boots. They are not bulky at all and make the mark todd boots look cheap and nasty. I've never got on with ariat boots and need to sell my xs ariat chaps, as now too fat!

Haven't tried MTs so can't say to those, but MH and Ariats are VERY different fits, I find, so it's really a case of trying and seeing. I find them both too short off the rack, but that might just be me . . . ;) Personally, I'd go SGs if someone else is buying. :)

Ariat Bromonts for me. I have very slim calves and ankles and these are just the best fit ever. My knobbly, ballet feet are as comfy as anything in them and the insulated ones are toasty warm in the winter. Best things I've ever worn!

I tried the Ariat Bromonts this weekend but they were too high in the leg and I believe they don't do a short version (I'm only 5ft). They were the comfiest boots I've ever worn though and would have bought them if they had fit.

MY instructor has just bought the Mark Todd Competition Fiels boots (the more expensive version) and they look great. They do a short leg version and look quite slim fitting but I am struggling to find anywhere who stocks them locally to try any for size.

Ariat Bromonts, they are lovely, I have the insulated ones, so taosty feet in winter, but cool in summer, love them, also have skinny ankles and feet and they fit lovely, have some MH too which are ok, but not as comfy as the Ariats........

I tried both Mountain Horse and Ariats and went for the Ariats as they are so comfy on my feet. I had Ariat short boots before and could wear them all day long without bother. The Ariats are lurvely, keep my feet toasty warm and look smart. I am not the best at looking after boots and after a year or so they still look new...

Well I think you know what I'm going to recommend! ;)
I have the Richmond High Rider (without the fancy laced front) and they look fab are a really good fit and molded really well. I don't think MH are clumpy at all, this is me in them after just a few days of owning them

They also do a very snazzy pair of boots which I WANT!!!! but I think as my sponsor they may have reservations about providing me with a £550 pair of boots just 'coz they will look pretty' I love the brown ones - http://www.mountainhorse.se/uk/img/actionimages/1265402331_l.jpg

I live in my Ariat Bromonts, wear them every day for everything because they are lovely and warm and even waterproof to splash through puddles. They are fab apart from the popper thingy to keep the zip up has broken, been in constant use about a year. I don't think they are shapely enough round the ankle to be smart competition boots though, unless I have skinny ankles (pretty sure I haven't!)
The old MH ones were really clumpy but the new ones are lovely.
Don't know much about the MT ones sorry except they are more fitted than Ariats.
For every day I would go for Ariats or for competition the Mark Todd because they are a nicer shape.
Probably best to go and have a try on somewhere

Bromonts - once you've had the insulated ones in winter, you'll wonder how you did not perish of frozen feet before... Another recommendation if you have skinny legs is the really nice racing work boots from Gibsons in Newmarket - they are really lightweight but they stand up to riding a lot of horses and they just look like smart brown boots.

Another vote for MH, but I have the kids ones (similar size to you I think, vertically challenged, fit ariat xs etc :p)...agree that they are slightly clumpy but the kids sportive high riders (which I have) are a fab fit and more than smart enough for jumping, they come up to a size 6 (from rideaway). I reeeeally want a pair of the new kids Richmond high riders though...smarter, less clumpy and they come up to a size six, but also have chageable insoles to make them up to a size bigger, eg up to a 7 I think. I've found the kids boots a fab fit and also much cheaper :D

only some of the MH boots are clumpy the newer ones ie, the supremes and the richmond high riders arent, personally when i can afford it and lose some weight im gonna get a pair of supremes tried them a few months ago and couldnt get them up comfortably without thinking they would burst so hopefully by xmas i can get a pair, not like i compete much but i just want some lol i currently have the mountain horse sportive high riders, very comfy, kinda clumpy but have had them three years so wont complain

LOVE my Bromonts (haev the Brown Insulated ones) - wear them all day everyday winter and summer.... poor things look slightly worse for wear after nearly 2 years solid use (as wellies as well as Riding Boots) so going to invest in a new pair or two (thinking of gettign another Brown pair and a Black pair to compete in - yes I love them more that my Sarm Hippiques) :D

I have 3 pairs of Bromonts - brown insulated and black insulated, then couldn't resist the non-insulated ones for Summer! They are all lovely though IMO the non-insulated ones are more generous in the leg.
Needless to say I loooove them all!
