ok apologies if long and loads of choccies to all that read. I still look after my ex's horse - we have owned him for 4 yrs. He is a TB x from Ireland 16.3hh who is shall we say a bit of a muppet ( no brain cells lol) but not a nasty bone in his body. Even when on constant box rest for re occuring abcesses in feet yes he got miserable from boredom but never nasty and when with grossly padded foot I led him out to graze for an hour he was a puppy dog - no tantrums or pulling ( iactually sat down with him grazing on lunge line). a little history - he had a close bond with lead mare of herd for sometime till she was PTS 8 months ago he then bonded closely with a gelding who was moved off yard 4 weeks ago. Now up until a couple of weeks ago he would bite my little babymare rather than be nice to her launching at her over dividing wall of stable(she did tease him somewaht standing just out of reach flicking ears )kicing out at her in field now he grazes next to her and will follow across field if bringing her in. I actually said to ex few weeks ago he seemed depressed. but recently his behaviour as changed - fine to bring in and a lamb in stable but in mornings baby goes out first as she is a stress head due to past) hes manic - bouncing around off front legs swinging around when putting rain sheet on trying to tank when leading to field and bolting off like a bullet when let loose( murphy as never shot off when you turn him out nothing more than a trot). Baring in mind hes such a good horse im thinking that he as got this bond to baby in his head and is panicking when she goes out. He is well health wise - beautiful naturally glossy coat, bright eyes, nice coloured membrane in eyes and gums etc
I am now trying to get inside his head and working through this - changing routine ie sometimes baby goes out first sometimes him, changing route to field but what you guys think - I really think that losing 2 very close strong bonds quickly as affected him and hes turned to baby for a bond ( though she as a love affair going on with Rio and Leo the tart lol) and cant cope when she is turned out even though he goes out after
