Had back lady out yday to the dun bum, needed quite a lot doing and likely to be contributing to the escalating NAUGHTY behaviour lately! extra spooky/nappy and odd little bronc type efforts! Anyway hopefully all sorted now and some stretches to carry on with :-)
Whilst she was there got her to check my saddle ... not great!... Not horrendous and hasnt caused the problem but wont be helping and ought to be changed. Got to be sorted but like most of us IM BROKE!
So to get ball rolling im hoping to get a local saddler along and maybe take my brown M leather saddle (which i love!)in part ex. It not a well knwn make but decent enough walsall quality all the same.
So im after your opinions please. My mare is a 17'' and should be a medium really even tho my medium his a highish wither so bit narrow. My mare does have a wither but then widens out ,this saddle more suited to maybe a chunkier tb reasonable wither.
What Id like to know it particulare is this....
Wintec and bates are they the same framework so to speak? I have a wintec adjustable I can try on her from a friend but would ultimately prefer a leather adjustable secondhand. Also Bates / Kent and masters or any other adjustable you can suggest I consider would be most helpful. Any saddle I go with WILL be fitter by a qualified fitter of course. Just looking to maybe save some money by getting more knowledge and maybe one secondhand before being fitted. Your thoughts would be fab x

Have YO thought about a saddle company saddle? They are adjustable by a saddler and can be full leather or half leather half synthetic. They look quite smart and a couple of people I know that have them say they are very comfy. Might be worth doing a bit of research on them, they are normally quite well priced as well. They are certainly no more expensive than a bates you might even be able to get a brand new one for the price of a second hand bates if you don't want anything super dooper.

I have a kent and masters adjustable gp saddle and a fairfax dressage adjustable saddle - They are all made I think from the same tree as thorowgood. So if you knew anyone which a thorowgood you would know if the tree fitted your horse's shape. Just to say my horse is a good mw type (WC x WB) - As I think (not 100% sure) wintec are slightly more narrow, i.e more tb type and thorowgood wider.

Kent and Masters are a leather version of thorowgood and Fairfax are slightly nicer still, but as they are relatively cheap brand new (i.e 695 for new gp K&M - 900 Fairfax dr) it might be worth looking into. I really like mine, they are lovely and light with big comfy panels and obviously adjustable.

Vote number 2 for the Saddle Company.

I have a back lady who is also a saddle company fitter coming out at the weekend after see the miracles she worked with a friends horse. The saddles are well priced and very adjustable (by a qualified fitter) and well priced at around £600 for a leather saddle with a synthetic (serge) panel.

They also do second hand ones too. google "Back In Line" Sam Barrett
