Ok, I am after some good old fashioned HHO advice - should I/shouldn't I?

i would say yes if its a really good one at a sensible price, however think carefully before buying, will you commit the time to the youngster, not just leave in the field, can you handle him several times a week thoroughly, as in grooming leading around, picking up feet and generally educating him to walk out properly and be a wel mannered pleasant person, so many are left to grow, when really they need regular handling.

so many people buy a baby then when it comes to the breaking the horse is not prepared and they are flippin clueless, i"m sure you are not, you sound like your are doing brilliantly with your other horse, good luck

Whatever you choose to do = don't put too much pressure in yourself as this will effect your relationship and possibly starting a family, there's nothing worse than money worries to screw up a relationship and added with the pressure of finding a suitable job, with an extra horse, and a baby one at that will put extra work on you and until you find your new job you do not know what hours and pressures that new job will create.

Lots of people are shouting 'go for it' ...'life's too short' etc but it's not them who have to recover from a recent miscarriage, find a suitable job, balance OH, with his feelings and veiws, and finanace and care for one horse already, and plan for a future family, it's quite a lot to juggle, whatever you do - make sure it's right for both of you.
Good luck and hope all goes well with your future plans. :-) x

thanks again for your comments, again, well thought out & i appreciate it :)

It is a big step, I won't have 2 horses to ride, only the one and I am confident enough time will be spent with BabyHorse (as he is now being referred to!) to turn him into a well mannered chap.

I have also decided that I will ask my trainer to back him. I know him, and I know how he works. He is a kind but firm guy and would have BabyHorses best interests at heart. Good plan there.

I really want to see him Friday and really hope that I can. So excited.

ps, job interview went well and have been asked back! eek!

The timing of your redundancy is very unfortunate given that you want to start a family. I personally feel that morally you will owe your new employer at least a year's solid work before you tell him that you are off on maternity leave. So you may as well buy the baby hoss and enjoy some work from the floor with it if you'd really like it. That way, for me, it fits.

that sounds great if you have this trainer you have confidence in and you have supportive people, just think how you felt a few years ago when you were starting out and how you have progessed, and apply this to babyhorse, and realise how far he will have to go from zero to schooled and take all the time in the world!! and remember if you keep on riding you will be futher forward as well when its time to start baby, good luck

Hello all!

Well a quick update :) Interview went well, they have asked me back and I have another 2 next week, so all a good start!

I am going to see babyhorse on Friday, OH is bringing the camera and a good friend is coming with us to give an objective view - though I suspect she will be more googly-eyed than me! :D

I am also seeing a friend of my YO who has bought an Andalusian and she has loads of info on them. She has kindly offered to sit down and have a chat with me about the breed and other stuff. exciting huh!!

Should I do it? I would have all the support I need from YO, OH and friends. I really want to. I mean really,

it sounds like your O/H is behind you and very supportive, if you did get another horse ,while being in foal your self you could end up not being able to do it all on your own, and with the new horse you might have to make copramises on how quick you can bring one along, iwaited with one of my young mares to back her fully at 6 and its payed off loads, i did it on my own
with 6 to 7 horses, building an equi centre running a farm and a house and bringing up 2 kids, hubby at the time was milking twice a day running himself ragged too , go for your dreams theres always a way round things, :D

Brilliant. I am going to go for it on the proviso that he is right and what I am after. My YO is being great and working out all sorts of solutions for me bringing babyhorse to the yard and all the various circumstances I could find myself in with him being weaned etc etc.

I def am going to win Most Tricky Livery award this year! :D
