I'm off to ride the beast (Monty, he's not really a beast

) tomorrow, first time since he reared and landed on me

Took D down the same hill today that I fell off on and felt sick the whole way down even though I know D is fine with hills

Think that's why I can't sleep and the fact that our hamster is so bl**dy noisy at night

Riding Monty in their school so at least there is no hills

Anyone else had a 'crikey that could of been so much worse' riding accident and got over it?
Any advice greatly recieved

Thanks

Yep twice!!! It is natural to get worry the 1st few time back in the saddle (although for me it was the 2nd ride that got my heart racing, but I'm just odd!!!). Try to relax and remember to breath, you will be fine.

P.S. Drown the hamster and solve all you sleepless probs!!!

Yea I've had a couple. I was XC schooling my dads little horse and he took off over a 4 ft post and rail with electric fencing 3 inch above!! He hit it and nearly tipped up, i went flying but we were both ok - it did scare me a little though!!

if he came over on you he probably freaked himself out too - hopefully he's learned form his mistake!

sounds scary though but try not to worry, it's unlikely to happen again.

By the way, any idea why he reared??? Sparks my mare (in siggy) has only reared twice under saddle and both times were when she had a sore back. She often rears in the field and does various moves worthy of the Spanish Riding School (of no apparent reason), which is generally how she hurts herself (slipped her pelvis last month, god bless her!!).

He sort of threw himself backwards because I was asking him to walk down hill. He's at a schooling yard now and the lady that has been schooling him said he is just very weak and is basically a 6 year old in a 3 year olds body. He has had his back looked at and there was a slight tightness behind the saddle and in his neck which has been treated but nothing significant enough to cause such an extreme reaction.
They just said he's going to need alot of time to build up and learn to use himself correctly. I've only had him 2 months and he'd had some odd schooling ideas tried on him

He is a sweet horse though

good luck today im sure he will be fine
its not nice though when somthing has happend like that it is bound to make you feel nervous,if you feel that bad then wait a bit longer before you get on as you dont want him to tense up and feel your worried, take it slow, but then again as youve said to me we all have wobbly days just go for it and youl be fine

One of my mares came over on me once. I was very lucky, she landed on my legs, didn't break them but split one open when she stood on it as she got up again. Sends shivers down my spine when I think of how much worse it could have been. Took me a long time to get my confidence back, I was lucky as I had my old gelding to hack out on and this helped immensely - he was like putting on an old pair of slippers, bless him. We got there though, took a few years but I am now 100% confident riding her and she has never reared since

I was helped by some great friends, who understood how nervous I was and encouraged me every step of the way. A friend used to walk along side us for the first few hacks out.

Good luck.

Good luck, I knwo exactly how you feel. I bought Harry in december, and he was a sweetie, until he started getting cold backed and bucked me off a couple of times. Vet and Osteo could find nothing wrong. It culminated in taking him to a lesson at my college, and him literally rodeo broncing for like a minute straight, and throwing some tottering vertical rears in for good measure. I was sure I'd never get back on him, but with the support of the wonderful vet who finally sussed what was wrong, and my fantastic friend who has put up with my panics and been with me every step of the way, I'm now hacking him out and schooling him on my own. Its the most wonderful feeling. You'll get there too, lots of patience. Nerves take time to heal.
Let us know how you get on
