As title CC welcome but please bear in mind it was his first time :o and I know we have lots to work on

this is the 55cm you are allowed assistance in this one so dad asked the lady to help mainly for reasurance for me :o

and here is the 65cm I hope you will agree he was a lot better in this one, at the end he really felt like he was looking for his next fence :D and I love his little face as he comes out the arena

I know I need to work on keeping an even contact over the fence to help him lift up his front end but I was expecting a few leaps so didnt want to jab him in the mouth :o
hope the videos work

I like him :)
You rode nicely, he doesn't seem easy to keep concentration and he has a lot of trust in you, when you say its okay he is quite happy to do it. The second round was a lot better as it was more flowing, but you both were probably happier as you've already seen the arena.

All I can say is keep it up and keep reassuring him that its okay as he trusts you :)

Much improvement between the rounds, well done! :D

Practice your turns and then straightness into fences. I fine the coloured poles like that help as you pick the colour stripe in the middle and ride to that colour.

Lovely pony :)

thanks it has taken a long time to build his trust and it seems to have finally clicked

Thanks I was trying to get the middle but sometimes he has other ideas  we are practicing picking colours at home both poles and jumping will carry on though

He's adorable! Your a lovely sensitive rider!

Think your going to be a great team in the future;):D
Thanks this means a lot to me I am really looking forward to the future with him

Really glad people like him :D was a bit worried people would not like him

I really like the way you rode, not that I am any master of showjumping. You kept calm throughout and were clear in what you asked of him. Looks a sweet boy :)

Thanks

What a lovely young pony! You rode nicely and just need to work on your approach to a fence but well done!

Thanks his approach is better when he is a bit more confident so hopefully we can keep working on that as he was unsure of some of the fences

he is lovely :)
Thanks I do love him lots :D

I think that was really nicely ridden and he is a very sweet pony. Hope mine turns out like that! (he is only 2.5yo!)

Just a few ideas.

Make sure you give with your hands a little more so he has full confidence in not getting even a little tweak in the mouth. Can be a little off putting to a few youngsters but don't throw your reins away!!

Also when you are coming up to a row of jumps if you widen your hands(take them out to each side about 1/2ft to a ft) slightly it does help to keep them a little straighter.

Lovely horse!! do you want to sell him?? haha :D

How old is he? I think you need to try and be a bit more confident, imo it was all a bit sticky and you seemed a bit rigid as if you weren't breathing!!

Next time I would miss out the 55cm, start at 65cm as a warm up round and go straight onto 75cm.

Its the correct way to ride in that bit and is a lot kinder for the horse, and she is fine using the double reins.

Yes I do know how to and when to use double reins with that bit but the pony just dosen't seem to need any of it, I suppose a video can be deceiving.

Thanks will keep that in mind next time

Nice pony I like him, but do you really need the double reins on him.
Yes my instructor suggested it as when he gets nervous he will tense against me and stop listening and he is not comfortable with the gag with one rein so two gives me the option depending on how he is and allows him to take a normal contact up untill the point he starts blocking me when I can use a bit more of the gag and I don't really use the gag part very often any more as he now respects that it is there he dosent set against me very often. He does all flat work in a standard snaffle to so it is not a permanent thing and eventually I hope to be able to jump again in the snaffle with him listening but until he is less tense I will keep him in what he is happy in and I have full control

I LOVE him! :D

Sorry can you remind me about age/ breeding and how long you have had him please?

Thanks he is a 6 year old Connemara gelding by arrow javelin and I have had him 6 months. He was very green when he came and had been out of work for several months. The lady I got him from brought him from his breeder and had done very little with him in the time she had him. I am not to sure what he had done before that so I am planning on writing to his breeder to find out :D

thanks and no he is never for sale sorry :p
He is 6 but green for his age and yes I should have been a bit more confidant but last time I tried to jump him away from home he had a little bit of a breakdown and wasn't even jumping the warm up fences and he is very easily overfaced still. Next time if he is jumping like that then yes I will attempt he 75 but he is still a bit nervous of fillers and they put them in for the 75 and I didn't want to over face him at his first show :)

i think you rode him very well, and he seems a very nice honest pony :)

just a couple of things you could work on (although were much better in the 2nd round):
make sure you don't sit up too quick as then your effort to not get him in the mouth will be spoilt on landing! and when you land try to ride forwards away from the jump rather than pulling him up quite so sharp, but this will come the more confident you get!

well done :)

i think you did well both my mares would be looking at the lorries in the back ground lol =)

thanks I didnt notice the lorries at all and he was to busy looking at what was in the arena to have time to look at anything out of it

I think you made all the right decisions, i wouldn't agree with starting higher as he obviously gained confidence from the small round and picked up quickly what was expected of him. You were both tonnes better in the second round and he looked happy. I dont see any problem with the double reins, your hands weren't overly mobile or harsh.

He looks like a lovely honest lad and like you're doing a great job with him. I won't comment on your riding other than to say you looked nice and quiet and not over riding to me. 10million times better than i would have done. In fact i've not even jumped him over a coloured pole yet in over a year so well done for bringing your lad so far.

Overall it was a nice picture.

I like how you keep him together and keep kicking when he may perhaps have stopped in the first round. You have a generally nice position, but could go with him slightly more now and again, but your hands are soft, so its ok.

If you want some cc, you get a lovely canter inbetween fences, then lose it sometimes just before the fences (often on the corners before the fence), which makes you lose a bit of impulsion and makes the approach not as good - try and work on your corners before the fence.

I'm liking that you're having instruction and taking advice from them. I wouldn't go much higher than this for a while. If you do have any problems at this height you can keep kicking on. If the fences get bigger and things aren't right you may get problems. He's only young and green after all.

Good luck for the future - you look like you'll have a lot of fun together.

I think he's gorgeous and you ride him beautifully, keep doing what you are doing and building his confidence. He's seems just like my boy when i started taking him out jumping, really keen but if i let him go too fast he's nip out the side of a scary one! Still learning i can't just be a passenger and that he needs me for confidence! He's also a 6yr old connie (jumping pic in my sig).

Thank you I absolutely love jumping him. Next timewe will hopefully do the clear round before and I then pick what height to do after seeing how he is but i think we will stay at what we did then untill he is completely happy

Thankyou yes canter is still he weakest pace so that is another thing we are working on. Yes I have lessons as often as I can as I think it is important to make sure neither of us gets in to bad habits and advice is always welcome as I know I still have a lot to learn

thankyou he has just found his love for jumping as he was a bit unsure to start with. I am also having to remember to ride him to a fence after being spoilt with horses that take you to a fence in the past :o sounds very similar to your boy hopefully he will take to xc like yours has too :)
