ok lameness thoughts???

Ok, my boy has been lame on and off since last October. Two hoof absceses. Same foot. Now lame again only in trot. Xrays booked for Thursday any thoughts? Thanks for reading.
 
Definitely time for x-rays. There could be something floating around in the foot, but could be side bone/ring bone/ caudal heel pain - anything really. Good that you're getting x-rays.
 
Hi, his feet,well he is not the farrier's favourite. Very boxy not a good shape and does'nt grow much foot either. He has a rather strange hind limb gait swings one leg out slightly and is very wide behind in trot. The offending foot is his right fore. Poor lad is having a tooth out in two weeks too! Same side, we are not having a good time at the moment.

blimey hopefully the rest of your years togeter will be easy and you've had all your bad luck lumped together now.
 
Is your horse barefoot? I had a mare who was off and on lame for almost a month one summer. She had a "hot nail" She got quicked with the nail and it was just enough pressure to keep her sore intermittently depending on the footing and if I jumped her or not. Finally my instructor pulled her shoe and we let her feet grow out a bit and tried again. She was fine!

We have a horse right now at the barn that is a natural tender footed horse. He is on and off lame and prone to abscess unless he is shod with pads on his front feet then he goes happily.

Hi. The tooth - is there a chance that this has caused a prolem that reaches all the way back down the body (specifically the hind limb movement)? Toothache can cause pain/tension in the poll/neck, the body then has a series of chain reactions down the body, compensating for the muscle tension. A sore tooth can often result in a tail carried to one side. My friends horse had exactly that - tooth removed (remnants of a bad wolf tooth extraction) - and a session with a body worker later, tail is now carried correctly and horsey much happier.

Thought it worth mentioning :) Hope you get to the root of the lameness issue soon though - must be a worry.
