1. People either rubbing off your number on board or squeezing another in before you!

2. Pushy mothers/friends who dominate the practice jump

3. Young girls on ponies kicking lumps out of them and when they refuse smacking them repeatedly!

4. Over bitted horses with bits you don't even recognise!

Come on..............add to it, you know you want to!

People walking on the outer track

Not obeying the left to left rule then glaring at you as if you're in the wrong!

There are prob hundreds more!
ETS: I knew there was another: The people that cut you up when you're just about to turn to the practice fence, and then go and jump it and knock the blooming fence down!!

Ditto!

People who take their dogs but just let them run around where the trailors/lorries are parked and many a time when we are at the trailor tacking up or doing something our little jrtx gets attacked and classes being held up by people who arent ready, was at a show at the weekend got to end of class and the judges been told thats it no more competitors but then along comes a man asking for the class to be held up while his son warms up so everyone waiting for 10 mins, am sorry but think if everyone else has bothered to get there on time, put their number down jumped their round shouldnt have to be held up even further. Sorry for my rant lol.

Getting there early when the class starts and over an hour or two later ,when the class has nearly finished, a pro arrives with loads of horses and we all have to wait for them to jump them.

I'm mostly a dressage bod, so here goes...

People cantering round and round the warm-up, with no regard for where anyone else is and expecting them to get out of the way

Mothers giving kids on show ponies lessons in the middle of the warm-up

People who canter right up behind my horse, even though you can see a mile off the he's looking for any excuse to explode!

And, lately, people who can't seem to tie their horses up properly- my sister had to stop one test and start again (with judges permission) because a horse broke loose from its trailer and practically cantered across her arena!

As above, plus people who stand in groups in the warmup with their entire family gathered around them. People who make unhelpful & snidey comments if i'm having trouble with my non too easy pony.

* People arriving late and expecting to go in the class just as it is finishing, we all then have to stand around waiting for them to warm up Etc.

*People making comments about my horse being too good for the class she is in, she may be good but i need the practice.

* Taking too long to build/change the course

* Spoilt Kids!

* People jumping Practice jump much bigger than the course

So called pro's hogging warm up!
People who cant control / ride their horse and blame it on the actions of everyone else in the warm up! ( not sure if anyone was at merrist wood bsja a couple of weeks ago when a lady was on a horse that kicks and demanded everyone warmed up on the same rein and screamed at anyone that even tried to go the other way - she was luck i was only watching if I had been riding I would have had her head off ! )
People changing the jump as you approach it
People putting the fence up to double the height of the class and then leaving the arena and not returning it to a usable height !

TBH whe your jumping it's much easier if the walkers are on the outer track because then they're not in the way when people are trying t ge to tne practice fence.

People who walk 2, stimes 3 abreast in the warm up!

Rude people in the warm-up arenas.
Small warm-ups in the middle of enormous empty fields - a BE speciality for SJ!
Riders being rude to officials who are only trying to get people into the arenas on time!
Totally inefficient scorers who take 5 hours to get the BE results out. And yes, I have worked in the scores caravan, and it really doesn't have to take that long!
People who tie their horse to the trailer and go off for 4 hours.
People who are bitchy. There's enough pressure already, for god's sake!
SJ judges who don't notice when other competitors knock jumps down.
Dressage judges who don't notice when people go wrong, or give good marks to vile tests, or bad marks to nice tests.
XC jump judges who don't notice people having a run-out (yes, really), and who penalise those who have deliberately taken a long route (yes, really).
that's just for starters.
God, i love competing really!

Everything on this thread plus kids who sit on their ponies all day using them for grandstand viewing. When all the pony wants is a rest...

None of the things on this thread trouble me really - schedules without times, and then classes that finish really quickly - so that when you arrive the class is underway or even finished - that annoys me

This is my new list of 'What not to do'
grin.gif

I agree with all of the above I think plus...

The only thing that really made me angry once was when I was in the middle of a DR test at a small local show and someone started warming up right next to me. At one point we were almost riding side by side!
Luckily that sort of thing doesn't distract my horse but it distracted me.

People who hog the practice fence and keep putting it higher and higher then pi** off and leave it for someone else to put back down. That REALLY annoys me.

Rude officials-power hungry committee members
mad.gif

Insufficient working in

Portaloos

judges doing the obligatory running the hand down your
horse's cannon bone

waiting for late entries to arrive who are competing in another class

Not winning (only joking)

Just re-read the thread and seen "people changing the jump as you approach it", oh crikey yes, just how infuriating is that. plus they tend to be deaf to calls of Oxer! and Upright!
People wandering right across in front of, or behind, the practise jump, is a good one. i don't care if they're on foot or on a horse, they need to engage their brain.

As a Secretary?......Competitors! OK. Those entering for them, and asking daft questions, like:

"What are the classes?" (Displayed on the board in clear view right next to you)

"Where are the number ties?" (That would be the black thing attached to your number)

"How much are entry fees?" (That would be that figure in bold print on the schedules and also taped on my desk and on the wall behind me)

mad.gif

As a Competitor: Disorganised Secretaries!

People who canter theire horses to and from the arenas and just expect everybody else to get out of the way for them.
I've nearly been run over so many times by silly girls galloping their ponies down the aisles to an arena, despite the fact that I walk at the edge to let them past!!

Crowded warm-up areas make me nervous too, I hate them. I get too scared to canter because I know some prat will probably swerve out infront of me at the last minute and then blame it on me!

definately the two or three abreast thing in the warm up arena!! if people want a mothers meeting catch up then please dont do it in the warm up arena where people are trying to warm up! lol!!!

Other riders' ground crews who wang the practice fence up (usually to way above the height of the class) as you are 3 strides out from jumping it.

Organisers that don't start classes on time (1 local venue holds the record at starting the 1st class 25 mins late).

Organisers that hold a class open waiting for some missing competitor. If you miss your time slot, tough!

erm 25 mins is nothing, to be honest i wouldnt even blink at it. Try 4 hours late for the first class of the day since the judge didnt turn up and didnt tell anyone they couldnt make it, alternate judge had to be found and then had to have the time to get to the show! it was a showing class, luckily new judge recognised that we had all been there forever wiating and got through the classes very quickly so we could all go home at a sensible time.

what realy annoys me,
small warm ups
or worse no warn up.
kids riding up your horses back end dispite repeated warnings that he kicks..
people whos horses wont tie up
people whos horses wont stand quietly in the lorry.
loud obnoxious mothers shouting at kids accross the field.

People in showing classes in incorrect gear who havent made the effort and turn up unplaited and messy. Ive made the effort to find out what is right for that showing class, ive bought the correct gear and ive turned myself and the horse out as well as i can so why the hell cant they! i can deal with incorrect gear if they have at least made an effort (it doesnt take much to remove a pair of brushing boots or a martingale, or to actualy brush the mud off legs)

very crowded lorry parks.

or the twits that park so close to your lorry that you cant get the cab door open.

people who park too close to your horse that is tied up at the side of the lorry and then tie a horse that kicks up near your horse.

I had forgotten the lorry park. That deserves a whole chapter on its own!

E.g. at 1 local venue where horses are on in the afternoon, the lorry park is filled with cars by the time I get there.

oh and lets not forget the time at a major county show!

we were lineing up for the grand parade, in the horse stableing area which led to the main arena, no steward anywhere in sight, stallions, mares with foals, mares in season, ridden ponies, kids on the lead rein, bezerk animals that shouldnt be on the show ground, general chaos that sort of thing, got rather dangerous at some points and i had about ponies with little riders sheltering between me and a dead end so that they didnt get kicked (poor kids some of them were terrified so i plonked my wall of a pony in the way and shouted at anyone who got too close, i knew most of those kids and some where nearly in tears). so all in all a generaly very dangerous situation to start with, then some bright spark from the show staff opens the gate from the spectator walk area and about 400 people decide to use it as a short cut to the car park! so then you had the general chaos of the horses, stallions etc with twits from the general public who know nothing about horses walking right smack through the middle of it, i even saw a couple of people pushing prams through there right behind stallions and hyped up section D's.
How no one got killed or kicked i'll never know and if me and those kids hadnt found our nice little sheltered corner i'd have not done the grand parade dispite the fact that i would have not recieved the prize money i had won if i hadnt done it (over £100 so quite a bit). Im just very glad that my pony is old enough and wise enough not to get hyped in a situation like that and big enough and pulls ugly enough faces to park between the kids and the others so that people think twice about getting too close!

I've only just started competing again after a long break. Coming back in to it I can't belive how much it has all changed - there are 2 things that realy irritate me:

1. Parents who know nothing being bullied around by their vile children

2. Kids riding round in double bridles not knowing how to use them (this isn't always just restricted to kids...)

ETS: Cliques!!! There's nothing worse than waiting for ur class to start with a group of people near u acting all snobby like they are better than everyone else.

As a steward, riders who are rude and seem to think that we are the hired help, rather than 'willing' (usually press ganged by horse secretary) volunteers.

5yr olds on honest ponies kicking the bejesus out ot them with spurs that are as nearly as big as them!!And then jabbing it in the mouth because it got kicked so hard in the ribs it said nooooo way!!!Parents saying you did wonderfully afterwards!!!POOR bloody ponies!!!
