horsey been lame for a week, last sat had vet who diagnosed infected corn (shoe still on-covered in previous post) anyway antibiotics given and strong pain killers, box rest until sound. So Weds I turned him out for a few hours as sound without pain killlers and horsey very keen on stretching.

Yesterday turned out for longer, brought in and when cleaning feet I noticed a split at coronet band and some tissue I presume bulging out and hoof wall quite flexible...horsey now sound and very happy....so I cleaned it and put wound powder on to keep it dry (it wasn't pus or bloody just weird), covered it with vet wrap.....question is what do I do now???? can he go out, do I need the vet back, should he stay in????

your advice would be much appreciated once again

Quittor???? Could an abcess have tracked up and exited at the coronet?? I know you say no pus but could be in there somewhere??

I would have the vet back out or at least ring them.

Antibiotics just delay absesses, so I would suspect its now all coming out at the coronet. However needs to come out so ring vet to check but I would be poulticing the coronet (tricky I know but can be done)

Abscesses don't react to antibiotics, I would think the best thing is to bathe it to take away the wound powder and let it drain.

Maybe poultice, if you can get a poultice on!! Bit difficult there, but I had a pony with this, took a while for it to drain. Need to keep it clean.

Ask your vet to have a look

You need to put some animalintex on it to draw it out, then gamgee, then vetwrap, then duck tape...lots of it!!!!

Trip to a DIY centre!!!

Hot-tub twice daily for a few days and turn out. If anything is coming out you will see a slight streak on the hoof. No need to bother with bandaging or poulticing.
