Ok please don’t laugh but need help with cow pats!

about 7 cows have been getting into the horses field for the past week now and obviously are leaving deposits all over the field

can’t get all of them up as they are shall we say sloppy

So couple of questions if you can stop laughing long enough to reply

What is the best way to get cow pats up?
Do cows suffer from worms as Pidge and Sunny are not wormed as we do worm counts and blood tests with our vets?

Yes cow have worms, but there are species specific I think. I remember that having cow or horses to graze the pasture is a good way of reducing horse worms.

To remove the pats, I would shovel up as much as possible and then throw a bucket of water over the area.

no its good to cross graze with cattle and sheep,keep a bucket and sponge handy for when you bring them in.

We have some that escape into our field too. If we don't get rid of them they keep reappearing, it was a real mystery as the cows had gone yet these horrible dollops kept resurfacing every few weeks. Turns out the crows turn them over looking for the grubs underneath! Gross

If you are really intent on removing the cowpats I would suggest a plastic shovel, although it does depend how long your grass is! Other than that, invest in some electric fencing to keep the cows out, lol.

i'd leave them, cowpats are supposed to be very good for horse's feet, i kid you not!

Erm snow shovel? Prob best to get them up as have cautionary tale re cow muck although it sounds far fetched, does make sense.

My neighbour had this problem with cows getting in, quite a few of them and obviously a fair dollop of muck got left on the fields, it all adds up!

Anyway, few weeks later, pony gets laminitis due to the field being inadvertently 'fertilised'. Apparently it puts lots of nitrogen into the soil which is why farmers use it on cattle pasture. Not good for horses though.

My parents lived in the middle of nowhere (fields fields, fields, no houses and no bus service for 10 miles, you get the picture). So my sister and I were bored for things to do.

We 'invented' this wonderful game..... COW PAT DISCUS!

Wait for them to dry out a bit (hard in this weather I know) and then you can 'peel' them up in one. Take your best discus pose and..... launch. Have fun!!

This was actually a competitive game of the days of yore! Until 3 years ago I was treasurer for the Cowpie Country Show. The show's origins lie in the throwing of cow pats (pies) by the farmers.

I'd leave the pats to dry (if we ever get a summer) and lift them then. That or leave.
