My little welsh colt who was meant to be gelded last week but was cancelled due to snow was rescheduled for today.

So out comes the vet, explains what can go wrong etc, etc. He then asks if both have dropped, to which i reply in all honesty i haven't checked as i have had no-one to check for me and i cant bend down at present (35 weeks pregnant!) and i wasn't risking a feel when he may take offense!

So anyway vet has a feel and he only has one ball that he could feel.

So he is going to have to go for surgery, lets hope its all straight forward but knowing my pony then it won't be!

He is around 20months old so was wondering if anyone had a colt drop later than this?

Oh and there is no such thing as a free horse!!

I can sympathise with you. We were given a colt last summer that was unhandled so know way of knowing he only had one!! So we arrange a date for gelding as you did which could'nt be done. He went for surgery just before Christmas and it was quite straight forward and he healed with no complications. His insurance covered most of the bill (as it was a "complication " of gelding) and it cost about £550. Like you said no such thing as a free horse but he is such a sweety so I'm glad it all went well. Good luck with yours.

My friends clydey was gelded when he was 6-7 months. I would have thought by 20 months they should be dangling by now.

I would be inclined to give him another month to see and then bite the bullet and have the surgery.

I had a TB colt that I had great trouble with in this department . I could only feel one on numerous gropes and so could my vet . One day vet was sure he felt two so he opened him but it turned out to be a lump of fat . By the time he was 18 months old it was driving me round the bend so he went in and its a good thing he did . When he was done it turned out (to quote the vet) the second one was so small it would have embarassed a gerbil!! So no ammount of waiting in his case would have made it drop.

Oh no poor boy! We did sing the Wombles song to him :P Just have to convince my husband to spend £500, not going to plan just yet, im out of work due to redundency/pregnancy so relying on my husbands unconditional love for me to fork out, hmmmm as i said not quite going to plan as yet!
