Ok so that’s embarrassing 😳

Mine's the opposite way round. I was standing close to the ring entrance at a showjumping event and Harvey Smith was coming out. He stopped alongside me and said "hello love, how are you?" I have no idea who he thought I was but fortunately only had time to splutter out "fine thanks" when the bell rang for the next horse to start.

Face blindness has it's advantages. If you are controlling a collecting ring/fence judging you won't get over awed by the big names. So says the person who has told off more than 1 top ranking rider to the shock of those standing near.

It has a proper name - prosopagnosia. I have it and I struggle hugely with faces. It’s a massive issue, I can lose family members in a crowd very easily, and not recognise people that I know well, if they are out of context/in an unlikely place.
It has led, I’m sure, to me being thought of as ‘a bit off’ ‘unfriendly’ etc.

Also, I have a job where the people I look after for a day or so remember me for years to come. But I wouldn’t know them if I saw them the next day. It is very embarrassing and ‘sorry I’m not great with faces’ doesn’t cut it, whilst if I say ‘sorry I don’t recognise faces, it’s called prosopagnosia and I can’t help it, sorry’ they look at me as if I’m insane and have just made it up.

I hadn't heard that name before either so very interesting to know. Not the same by any means but I can't do visulisation and I discovered listening to a radio programme that has a name too - aphantasia. Then randomly discovered that my brother can't visulise either. Fortunately no one can tell you can't visualise - you just go along with it.

Wow! I'd never had of that, what an extraordinary condition. Does it cause you a lot of problems?

No no problems really other than if in say a sports psych type seminar I can’t really get a lot of it. Was surprised when found out brother was the same.
