As, unfortunatley i am one of those people that can't block things out as most of the British public are sooo good at and tend to see images of these things when i think about them I'm sat here this morning feeling very upset and very sick (along with many others) thinking about the poor creatures at Amersham and the vidoes people have been talking about on ITV (haven't seen any of them) and am wondering what we can actually do about it? It's a known fact to us that Amersham farm happened for the same reason as the videos so why can't we stop it. It's all very well pointing the finger at the RSPCA and police etc and don't get me wrong they deff have blood on their hands but why is this happening in the first place and why can't we stop it! Really horrible thing is i really think i recognise that coloured horse on the news page.
Come on, some serious ideas please!

When i win the lottery i have always wanted to set up a recsue/retirement home but i'd rather the case where we didn't need to have them!

i hate to have to say it, but there isn't anything you can do to control the actions of others. if there was, there would be no more murders, rapes, paedophilia, etc etc etc, let alone horrific treatment of animals.
the only thing that will have some impact is for the charities and the police to have TEETH, i.e. proper powers to seize animals the moment they believe they are in trouble (and not have to wait a month till they're actually dying/dead), and for punishments that are actually some sort of a deterrent.
write to your MP, or email the Government. We need much stronger Welfare Laws. there's not a lot else really.
it sounds as if lots of people had already reported this. i don't understand it though, if i'd seen those poor horses deteriorating into a state like this, i would have been on the phone 50 times a day making sure something was done... or going to the police station and making a nuisance of myself until there was a result.

I agree kerilli but was just hoping someone might have an idea! The point is you shouldn't have to be on the phone 50 times a day, and i'm sure the people that did report feel bad even though they did all they could! I had a reply from someone on here saying they live a mile away from the farm but didn't know about those horses, they can't be seen from the road but she had herself reported him for other horses in his apparent care in other fields. I know they need more power and thats why i'm asking what we can do. But then they do have the new animal welfare act and still the RSPCA let them get in that state even though the man is known to them and will prob be unable, due insubstantial evidence, get a conviction. Kind of makes you wonder why we compainfor the change in the law when it isn't used and doesn't make a difference! My OH said to me last night, if this was a child abuse case he would be looking at life. Like you say they need the deterrant, but that is the same as all cases of crime really isn't it, thats why this country is in the state it is in suppose! I know you talk about murders and rapes etc, but i'm talking about cruelty thats going on on a mass scale that everyone seems to turn a blind eye to! Like someone on here said, where were the animal rights activists this time? They said about how many times they target innocent people and takes things to the extreme, like digging up the remains of that guinepig farm grandmother, but they won't touch someone like him. I know the equine comunity is pulling together at the moment and it's great to see but how many will just have a distant memory of the tragedy in a few months and then be outraged when it happens again. I think we all need to sit up and take notice and get something done about it and not just turn a blind eye and think oh theres nothing we can do about it, it's a fact of life! I'm all for fund raising, donating etc but what is that actually doing, it's not doing anything to help stop it in the first case is it! I've always been a great believer in stopping the cause not treating the problem in everything in life.

So there could be a law that states you can only own a horse/dog etc if you have a licence, may be even a home search (that'll be the day!) but people are neglectful, selfish and cruel and will always break the law.
