Ok so what next???

Ok so i have tacked up, and let bit inf 4 or 5 times for around 15 mins. Lunged and is responding quite well to stand walk on and teeerrrot. Has been sat on to.

What would you do next?
 
I take it you're breaking in a youngster??

TBH If you have to ask, I feel you shouldn't be doing it....

but, since you asked, once the horse is lunging happily and is obedient to all voice aids, I would be long reining, round the arena, round the yard, round fields - if you have a long drive or quiet lanes.... anywhere really. get them used to being out.

Lunge and long rein with tack on and spend time familiarising the horse with you leaning over, getting on (without moving). You should have someone on the ground to help hold the horse's head.

When you're happy for them to move off, be lead by someone you trust and who the horse knows and trusts. The horse should be sufficiently confident to trust you and your voice aids to move forward happily. you can start to introduce leg aids in conjunction with the voice, so they start to associate the two.

You should already have good steering from all the long reining.

There is no "correct" timescale for doing this - some horses learn really quickly, some take ages. If you hit a problem, go back at least one step immediately - don't persevere and create problems - the horse doesn't know what your long term plans are, he only knows the here and now.

don't be in a hurry and skip really establishing the lunging and long reining - doing that bit correctly makes the rest SO much easier and gives you a well produced young horse with a good mouth.
 
Some people where saying "oh she's doing so well and taking to it perfectly, just try riding her" others said stick to what your doing for time being.
