Am about to turn my gelding away for a good few months. During this time he won't be ridden. I will be getting another horse to ride. Insurance wise, WWYD about horse who is turned away? Am thinking to just insure him for public liability- especially as I will be Fully insuring the horse that I'll be riding. Thoughts anyone??

Most of my horses claims have been from injuries when turned away so I wouldn't change anything unless you have an alternative plan should the horse colic or hurt itself.

Reduce the category he is in maybe? My pony that is categorised as grazing only and not to leave the field costs £11 a month with no reduction in vets fees cover

Thanks Welsh D - will look into the possibility of that as an option. Not wanting to leave my horse vulnerable and yes, it would be a bit of a gamble to not have vets fees covered!

You could also reduce his value should you claim for loss of use/animal. Obviously a gamble as is everything in life... Removal of vets fees substantially reduced my previous horse (liability doesn't cost that much) but you need to have ready access to substantial cash should the worst happen.

Yes, that's the thing isn't it? Am looking to keep costs down but absolutely don't want to leave horsy vulnerable- probably the two don't work together!! Think I will look into reducing his category if possible, as suggested by WelshD.
