Ok so who has already clipped ??

I spent some time grooming my yearling last night as he's off to a show on sunday so I'm slowly pulling my way through his crazy mane and when I looked up there was a big hairy grey yak looking at me with its head over the wall complete with full beard !! I'm sure my Mare has grown a full winter coat over the last 2 days !!

I'm supposed to be hunting on Sat she's going to be soaking wet - has anyone else had start clipping yet ??

I'm going to buy a set of my own this year as only want to take off her head neck and shoulders + maybe an extra clip in January.
 
It's really cold I think. My Dales mare doesnt normally get rugged til late october/november. Sghe live sout 24/7 and has a lot of natural shelter when i went to feed her last night her back legs were knocking together she was shivering so much bless himi so had to put her light weight on that as above she nor,ally has on end of october/ november she is also lookign very fluffy and is complete with a tash haha. I'd clip now if she was in full work and living in.
 
No not yet and hopefully not for some weeks yet! I usually try and wait till the clocks change and then I can get away with one clip lasting the whole winter. Mind you if he suddenly gets very hairy I will have to relent!
 
Not yet (thank goodness)! Won't until we are back from a few days away at end of sept as they'll def be living out until then. As to when we will after that though - just depends on how sweated up they are getting with their work and what the changeable weather decides to do. So hard to predict! Will try and get away with a dealer clip on my mare and see how we go, usually wind up with a hunter clip, but I like to at least try for less!
 
I haven't yet, i am another one who waits until the clocks change! However he has become very hairy over the last week... also getting a very sweaty girth area, unless it becomes worse i like to leave it as long as possible...
 
I would have done by now as mine have turned into hairy monsters over th last week but my clippers are away being serviced ( I left it a little late). I normally clip a couple of times in the winter (one gets clipped 3 times). The ones in harder work have a hunter clip now then a blanket or chaser at the second clip
 
I have noticed her girth area and ears getting really sweaty but obviously the last couple of days weather has really sped up the winterisation process lol !! I've popped a better rug on her to see if this calms things down but there is no way we will last until October

She's half connie - I think she worries I'm going to stick her out on the moors when the nights start to get darker
 
I just put a 100g stable rug on my hairy yak to try and slow the process as I'm loathe to get her clipped too soon...

And no, she wasn't sweating or overhot, I DO check her- I don't like overugging as much as the next person!!

I clipped my hairy marey a fortnight ago - just a blaser (cross between blanket and chaser) as I thiought it was too early to clip right out. How wrong I was. Her top has positively thatched in two weeks, and I think I'll be clipping again before the end of the month - right out this time.
 
Well my new horse has got the most fine coat in the world! So I very much doubt that I will be clipping at all!! :D

There are a couple on my yard that are starting to look a little hairy though - but they will be living out this winter.

I've done that today - I've got a pessoa l/w that has 75grms of fill so that might help although don't need to worry about hunting now as they have changed location and I can't hack there at least I'm not in a rush now though :-( booo
 
Nope :) Mines still got his summer coat and only wearing lightweight turnout during the day... Trying to leave it as late as possible but it's getting pretty nippy here :(

I've full clipped for the last 2 years only to find that as soon as I do the snow comes and I feel like a complete b**** as the roads are too slippy to bring in. (He was rugged to the hilt and has huge shelter and ad-lib haylage and was fine) I actually thought of clipping last month so at least he wasn't totally naked all winter (-23 last year). Trouble is he's already sweating. I think I'm going to wait and see tbh. He doesn't need alot of work despite being 6 and I hate warming up for jumping anyway so good excuse not to do it and go back to cross pole class LOL.
 
Yep. Clipped at the weekend and took the lot off including legs. Am expecting to need to do it again in about 4 weeks as the first clip always seems to grow back quickly.
 
Mine are looking sleek and shiny! They do have medium weights on in the paddock - have done for about three weeks..... Inside one has a heavy weight Rhino and the other a fleece and heavy weight Rhino.

*is now hiding in anticipation of being slammed!!!*

I'm another that's trying to hold off clipping as I want to get away without rugging this year if possible, and every time I do clip the weather turns foul and we don't do much anyway!

I've managed in the past without clipping and just letting them cool off and having a good roll when we get home.:)
 
Mines just started moulting ans has a tiny bit of fluff so reckon I'll be clipping in a few weeks. I aim to do just a blanket because if we get really cold weather like last year I don't want him getting cold.
