OK - someone give me a kick up the backside please

If it helps I have been slightly stalking your posts cause you are so local and I want to come hacking with you! :)

Almost all our yard love fast hacking and I just like to potter around. I know that there are people at other yards who are so jealous of the cantering/galloping opportunities we have hacking, but I am afraid to use them most of the time. I keep wishing that there was someone on the yard with me who understands, that for someone nervous hacking, it needs to be done in small baby steps.

The fact that I am riding out hacking at all is due to my incredibly long suffering sister, but I do feel a bit guilty when most days a sedate canter is the most I can manage and she's got a lanky TB who just loves to run.

It does get better and it will get easier, and I can speak from experience on this one. I was never hacking again, and now I am happy to go out on my own for a few hours. It's taken 3.5 years to get to this point and is only because we can ride off road.

Get back in the saddle tonight and smile because you can and you own a gorgeous horse and spring is just around the corner. :)

Well stop stalking chicca and come on over to Bramshill so we can go hacking together . . . we can take it as steady as you please! Whereabouts are you?

A friend with two glasses and a bottle of wine! Mix it up with a bit of a gossip... with any luck you'll be laughing too hard to concentrate on how scared you might be feeling!!

I'll bring the canopes!!!

I love this idea . . . and there are definitely some candidates up at the yard who would oblige (any excuse for a p$ss up).

Thanks :).

*kick* :D

I know just how you feel and here's how I think of it; what's the worst that can happen by getting on ........ i'll fall off ...... oh wait I did that yesterday ...... :)

You'll feel great once you've done it!! When i'm very nervous after a fall I get on for 5 minutes, walk + maybe trot around and then get off and reward myself for a job well done lol :) small steps to make yourself feel happy again xxxx

I love this . . . you're quite right . . . we have no roadwork . . . so the worst that will happen is that I fall off and land a) in the school; b) by the side of a ploughed field; c) on a dirt track in the forest . . . all very do-able . . . many thanks :)

Aww bless you, don't feel teary!!! I would feel exactly like you if I had fallen off yesterday too!!! Blimey I feel like crying every time my horse misbehaves these days!! :o

Take it easy with a nice glass of wine or ten and don't push yourself too hard next time you ride. Even if you do ten minutes of walk in a menage then that's all that matters to start with! It's bound to make you feel edgy and nervous - like you say - it's not like being a child and bouncing back up!!! I dread falling off now! You don't have to prove yourself to anyone by hopping straight back on and acting as if nothing happened!!

Good luck and keep us posted with how you get on.:)

FF . . . the plan for tomorrow is to work him in the school - until he sweats (I'm convinced he needs to work harder) . . . so pole work . . . if he's fit enough to bog off with me, he's fit enough to work a tad harder in the school.

Sunday - if hacking buddy is better - we hack.

Hacking buddy's hubby has a full-up 18hh Cleveland Bay (she has a petite little TB) . . . she was turning them both out on Wednesday morning and they had a bit of argey-bargey at the gate and Archie (the CB) brought his head down on hers . . . split her head open and knocked her spark out. Cue a quick trip to A&E and her wound being glued together (poor girl). Her wound is supposed to be dried enough for her to wash her hair on Sunday, so we're hoping that also means she can get a hat on her head so we can get back out there :).

We're two 'fraidy cats together and both horses are pretty much donkeys in company . . . so we're gee'ing each other along.

Can't tell you, though, how much the support (and humour) on here means to me . . . you guys rock! Raising a glass to all of you and have left a mixed case (red, white, rose and some cava) in the cafe. No vol au vents though . . . sorry . . . to 70s for me ;).

Proposed plans sound good :)

Maybe will sort transport out later in the spring & bring bigger Fuzzy along for a bimble as you have lovely country round there :)
(I used to drag hunt your neck of the woods;) )
Or maybe you could pop over our way (but your hacking is better! :p)

Fuzzy - c'mon over . . . in fact all comers welcome . . . and you're right, even brambles, nettles, etc. are softer to land on than tarmac ;). I'd need to check with YO, but we could have a HHO hack in Bramshill . . . I'll bring wine and nibbles ;).

I am sorry to hear about your fall :( and I agree as we get older we don't bounce like we used to, or at least not in the places we would like to bounce lol.
Luckily for me the 2 falls I have had since one over ten years ago that knocked my confidence have been ok for me. One was in a school and coblet ran out before a wee jump. The second was after a ride to a pub where I did enjoy a pint. Feeling rather up for it I cantered on a verge as he was full of it and to let off some steam. He bucked and stumbled at the same time chucking me forwards. I fell but was unhurt and just laughed.
I was in company though and would not have done that had I been on my own. I think having the drink saved me as I was relaxed and I rolled as I fell too, either that or I have been watching too much National Hunt racing.
I am glad to hear that you are ok though x and that you also got back on again to ride today.
Always a good thing is that, never let the nerves get to you or else that one day of putting off riding can turn into a week, month etc
I hope you can meet up with the fuzzy furry who has offered to go hacking with you as it sounds a really nice idea.
Take care and stay positive X
