Well where to begin...
Ad popped up other day, theyre pretty local (just over half hour drive), so we arranged to go and view.
They had 3 girls in the litter, one tan and white and two black and whites. We were told they would be smooth coat by email, on seeing dad (he's broken coat) and mum who is smooth. Think she's gona end up slightly broken coated, although dad was lovely anyway.
We decided against the tan and white as OH has had quite a few of this colour in past. So was between the two black and whites, this was a hard decision. We were there for quite awhile, but on watching the two pups decided on one (OH said he'd already chosen and was waiting to see which one I liked but dunno if he's lying).
One pup seemed quite shy and put off going near the kids (not our kids) the other seemed more up for playing and interacting, and even decided that my shoe and laces were fair game. So we opted for the braver of the two, hope we won't regret that, she's also the smallest of the
Some pics if they'll upload ...

Sorry been having computer problems.
She's the smallest of the girls, not the smallest in the litter. She is nearly 5 weeks.
Now to decide on a name, there will also be ALOT of posts asking for advice.
Starting with a few questions, when is best to vaccinate, vets down the road do a puppy pack, but OH's mum said normally you vaccinate at 6 weeks then again at 8 weeks. Obviously she won't be getting to us til she's 8 weeks, am thinking easiest for us to go with the puppy pack when she's come back here.
Also are training pads better than newspaper, am leaning towards the pads as waterproof backing so easier to clean up, newspaper will soak through onto floor etc. Any tips on this...

Any good advice for helping puppy to settle in? :)

First vacs at 8 weeks, there is no point vaccing while they are still on the bitch so you just have to be careful while they are in between. Your vet would be the best person to advise.
So cute, love puppies, have fun!
Oh and training - just start straight off training to go outside, why train thme to pee in the house then retrain them later? We go outside every 20/30 minutes for the first few days, say whatever you want as a trigger and praise for the result. Don't treat unless you want pup to ask to go out just for a biscuit!

Bit worried about letting pup go outside to toilet before fully vaccinated, we have alot of chickens, peacocks, we also run a campsite so have alot of other dogs on site, granted they won't be or shouldnt be using our garden to toilet in but we do have alot of cats and rabbits and foxes roaming our garden.

Fair enough, it has to be up to you, we risk it as the thought of a dog ******** in the house until it is 14 weeks and has had it's third jabs is too much for me to cope with!

That isn't meant to sound rude. I think first dogs are like first children, you are really attentive and do it all properly. I would say though, friends of mine - two seperate lots - got pups in the last year and didn't start housetraining until the final jabs at 16 weeks and both dogs are still unreliable now at 18 months.

No I do see what you mean, am wondering if there is a good compromise. Do you think (now don't laugh) that if I bought something like this http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product....aign=under10&gclid=COqftMX7js4CFcIp0wodsjUPdw for puppy to go on outside and then to use inside overnight (as no offence I love my sleep and don't want pup getting to used to any attention over night) Does that seem like a crazy idea :p

very cute!

I have poultry, ducks a cat and certainly badgers but still not doing the puppy pad thing-can't quite get my head around it. I get the concern about the other dogs though. I also have a puppy run (having been using it for ducklings for two years lol, its 3m by 1.5m) that I can put him in just outside the back door if I need to in the middle of the night.

Quarrie is ten weeks but fine through the night from 11pm to 5am this morning and about the same the first night. They are all different but I've not had a pup get me up in the night.

Yes she certainly is cute.
Will have to have a think on the whole toilet training.
Do you think it's best to sortout a blanket to send to breeder so it can get mum and siblings scent on for when she comes back here, a kind of comfiter blanket. :)

The vaccinations mainly cover for dog related diseases so other animals won't matter.

If you are worried about providing a clean area outside buy a large puppy pen and use that.

Puppies are a lot more robust than you think.

I have an 11 week lab pup, in addition to 3 older dogs. I certainly don't keep them apart and the older dogs still go out and about. It's really important for the puppy's socialisation to get them out and about asap, even if you carry them. My pup has already been to the pub a number of times.

He has also been clean and dry all night (8 hours) every night since we have had him at 8 weeks.

Do you think it's makes a difference as pup has already been outside? So if we setup a pen so nothing else can get on the grass it would be ok to go outside, abit paranoid first puppy we've had (had dogs before but they were parents dogs when I was younger) and people keep telling us be careful letting her go outside etc

I think if you set up a pen for pup in your garden thats as safe as you can be.. I wouldn't like to delay house training by waiting any longer...

Definitely do as much socialisation with pup as possible with campsite guests and children etc even if you have to hold pup in your arms :)

like the idea of puppy pen in the garden, i wouild always use outdoors as a first option for toileting but maybe have some newspaper by the door you usually use to take her out just in case she gets there before you and pees. training to puppy pads may be a good option for the depths of winter but yours should be sorted by then.. i took a biggish cuddly toy to the breeders and left it in with the litter until i picked mine up and that proved very successful as she slept through the first night with no problems and seemed happy to be in her crate with her little friend..i also took mine out in my arms when i walked my other dog so she could see the sights and sounds and meet people and see other dogs but not touch them...mind you even though she was small my arms really ached!!!!!

Its unvaccinated dogs you want to avoid-and places where there might be rats. If you live in the country there are rats-so just keep away from waterways and where there might be more rats found until she's covered. If you ring your vets they'll give you details of the vaccination program they use etc. A pen in the garden would be fine I reckon and pup can still go out in public if you carry-just be grateful she won't be nearly 10kg when you pick her up lol.

Ah we do have alot of rats about (something lil pup will hopefully help with eventually) so perhaps best not to let her outside, although am thinking the idea of a pee mat outside might be ok, as assume it's anywhere where unvaccinated dog or rat will of pee'd or pooped that's the problem.
