ok, what do you we think of this horse??

My only comment is that surely there are more local horses for you to look at? If it was a special competition horse, I can understand you driving such a long way, but he is a pretty normal type - and I don't mean that in a horrible way.

I like him, he needs a good feed and a lot of work to get some condition on him but he has a nice kind eye and seems to have a good loose way of going. Looks like the jumping will need a bit of work but he's a good price so I would think it's worth a trip.

Looks like a nice type. Depends really what you want him for. I don't like the jumping photo, he is jumping very steeply and I would want to see some video action before travelling all that way.

I like him.

Wouldn't travel for 5 hours to see him though.

The jumping photo is awful - but very much down to the jockey I'd imagine.

thanks guys :-) I have been searching for a month now for a decent horse in my area and they are either sold from the field or way to expensive :-( so I have had to start look further afield. am looking for a safe hack/safe jumping horse. :-)

ooh, he looks like he might suit my husband. My only worry, and this is probably the reason why I didn't spot him myself as I am looking for my OH, is that he's from a dealer, and if you google the number several other horses that they are selling are also described as perfectly, saintly allrounders too. Perhaps try to find out more about the sellers before making the long journey.

If you only want him for hacking etc then his advert ticks the boxes, he looks like he could be a nice sort with a bit more grub in him. For that price I would say it's def worth the trip, although seeing a video of him first might be an idea at least you'll be able to see the way he moves/jumps etc first.

The market for horses much be doing much better in England than in Ireland! over here you could pick up a boy like that in a private sale for max £1000!!
I know a few dealers who sell on Irish Bred horses to the mainland & honestly he was prob bought in for £500.

He seem expensive to me but im just going on the local market with me & what i got for not much more than what he is offered for when horse prices were at a peak a few years ago!

If he "does what it says on the tin" then he seems quite reasonably priced. Hard to tell much detail from the pics, but he looks a nice enough, genuine type.

Bearing in mind the long journey, it would be good if you could get more information, either on him or the seller, or more pics/videos. However, if you are finding it that difficult to find something suitable close by, then why not sacrifice a day to go and see him.

He looks nice although not it the best condition. He does look a bit over at the knee in the pic of him standing though.

He seems worth a look though given the price but I would get a second opinion and vetting just to be safe.

I wouldn't bother going. He looks very ordinary, poor, wormy. If he was around the corner maybe but a 5th round trip? Nah, especially as he's being sold by a cheapo bottom end dealer.

I would expect an 8 year old to look more 'finished'. For a horse that has done X country, jumped & hunted there seems to be little rounding out of muscle & his jump looks inexperienced to me. I think they may be over egging it a bit, but so do most sellers. I wouldn't go that far to see him. As has already been said, see a video first.

If you really like him and don't mind the long trip, copy the advert go and have a look. If you do buy him have him vetted, if he turns out to be not as described then as he's from a dealer you should get a refund or exchange, but theirs no guarantee. You are protected by the consumer credit act when buying from a dealer. Good luck.

Definately ask for a video to see movement before you make the effort to view. As this is a dealer am sure they get asked this frequently and could provide easily. Also more photos of him standing square with no tack. Both sides, front, rear etc.

I don't think a 5 hour round trip is that far to travel if he's what you are looking for. Depends how urgently you want a horse? If you're not in a hurry maybe wait and see what else comes available in your area?

Have you put any wanted ads up locally?

I just got my loan horse via a wanted ad. It might be that someone is thinking about selling but hasn't made their mind up yet, sees your ad and gives you a call?

Worth a try.

good luck :)

I would travel anywhere for a safe horse :-) xx

Ditto this ^^

And this ^^

I wouldn't mind the trip if the horse is right for you, i did a 9hr round trip for my yearling!
Yes he does need some condition & work but you'll get more satisfaction from 'transforming' this horse than buying something ready made.
If all is genuine he is a good price, but still get him vetted :)

The horse looks nice but nothing special when you take into account that 5 hour trip, chances are you will feel pushed to make a dissition (sorry Dyslexic) I mean will you go back for a second veiwing?
The only thing that worries me is that jump its not suitable for a novice and if thats the best picture they could get!
Will they send you more pics maybe a video, that way you might save yourself a boring, worthless trip.

Look like he would do your jjob if he's as described and would look a lot better after some TLC . You are right to try to find background on the dealer and when you go take a friend to witness you asking direct question about the horse and the dealers answers just in case.
Many super horses come from dealers yards and some total b's come from private sales just be cautious and aware and don't fall in love until the horse has ticked all the boxes in the sensible part of your head.
Good luck.

i personally would be a little wary.I dont know the dealers but i discovered my
old horse for sale with them very recently, only through someone calling me who
had been to try him and was a little suspicious,(dont know she traced me).He was advertised as this most amazing horse who would teach a novice to ride hunt etc, safest thing on four legs. This horse is a big 17.2hh beast & yes could
be an angel but was a confirmed napper and could be quite scary when the mood took him.She was told he had come in from Ireland.I put her straight that
I brought him from his breeder at 2yrs old through Malvern sales and sold him on for peanuts last may with full knowledge of his problems. He had only recently been sold on by these people to my knowledge. So by all means go & see this horse if you realy like him but ask as many questions as possible & keep an open mind good luck.

He looks nice although not it the best condition. He does look a bit over at the knee in the pic of him standing though.

I'm glad someone else said that, I was thinking the same, he still looks a niceish sort though but not worth the long trip, sure you could find similar closer to home op

But in this case surely you don't know where the 'past' history was invented. Yes, it could have been the dealer but equally it could have been the people who sold him on to them.

If a dealer is told a horse is perfect in all ways and has no reason to doubt that then they are not being dishonest using this as a selling point. Just because a horse has napped/bucked with one owner doesn't mean he will necessarily do the same with another.

OP - the horse doesn't 'stand out' to me and although a reasonable price I would think there would be more locally to suit. If you tell us exactly what you are looking for I'm sure a few people would have a look at advertised horses; HHO seems to have a good success rate with this :)

Thanks so much guys, am looking for 16.2hh to 17.2hh aged between 6 & 12, mare or geldings, looks unimportant as is vices. Budget is £2500 & I am in the newark, notts area x
